I can't believe no one has commented on this shot. Super cool, but how the heck did you get this one?? BTW, those guys are total bad asses!
thanks Cory.one of those guys is my buddy who did the controls for the bay lights display -- 21k led lights on the vertical cables angled toward SF that put on a spectacular light show at night (check out youtube).
like them I climbed the cables too. several times in fact and we'll be going back. I've also been below the bridge and in the towers. by the time I am finished I hope to have ascended all four towers of the west span and the one tower of the new eastern span which is almost finished.
and there's a chance that we may get to climb the golden gate too...but that depends on a lot of things and is a longshot at the moment.
there was a glitch with the lights so the three guys out there are: a foreman for the electrical contractor, fiber optics contractor and my buddy the controls engineer.
i'm standing on the observation deck of tower 5 with my 5d3, 16-35L II, 24-70L II and 70-300L.
on this climb I brought up the rear. I had two lenses in my backpack and the 24-70L II + 5d3 holstered in A lowepro toploader in front of me. you have to be extra cautious on the climb and while working on the cable because if you drop anything into traffic there's going to be a serious problem
.
