Cap'n Fishy THANKS. One more question to see if I've got it figured.
The 5Diii will automatically write to the compact flash if it is there? Or do I set this in menu?
Shameful, I admit I've not cracked the manual-only watched some y'tubes on this body :(

cool shot except for me your sharpening especially on the eyes went overboard. over sharpening can be a distraction too. at least IMHO.

Either Flickr is over sharpening my pictures like always or you have a good point! Thank you for pointing it out, it certainly wasn't intentional from my part!

=Cap'n Fishy;16473800]I do same.

One tip on the same subject for MedicineMan4040 - if you have both cards in the camera, and you take the CF card out to transfer files by card reader, leave the door open. If you shut the door, the camera switches to write to the SD and stays with it when you put the CF card back in. So, without you having asked it, the camera has switched to SD. Then when you start shooting you wonder why it is writing slower until you realise you need to switch back to CF. If you leave the door open while the CF is out, it stays with the CF when you put it back in. It does this regardless of power on, or power off.

Yeh, me neither

A big, big, Thank You!

This keeps happening to me, and now I know how to avoid it!!

Nae bother ;).

If only one card is in, it automatically goes to it - CF or SD. If 2 cards are in, you need to make sure it is looking at the one you want it to write to if you are not writing to both at once. It won't automatically write to CF - which is why the door problems arise.

As Chris61 says, it is easiest to use the Q button to toggle between them. Just hit Q and use the back wheel to point at 1 for CF or 2 for SD. No need to press <SET> or anything after that. The top LCD keeps you informed of the first one you are writing to at any time.
