Another thumbs up for greentoe!

On Sunday evening my offer for 70-200 2.8 IS II was accepted for $1850 by an East Coast dealer - Today (Tuesday), I just got my lens in Maryland!
Now thats superfast shipping and response time!
So after Rebates and Discover rewards the lens should cost about $1607.xx or so - i am glad i didn't manage get in on the refurb sale last week ;)

Way to go, Greentoe!

Edit: Andrew just emailed me to tell me that i should expect a $20 rebate as a first time buyer in 4-6 weeks, which once received will lower the price down further from above. i am happy for the price i got.

Wow! Thats a great deal on the 70-200 II. My offer of $1850 was declined and counter offered at $1999 (1850 after rebate). I wonder why the big difference and bummed I missed out on that savings.

Dont feel bummed, Helene - I think its a combination of - luck, persistence and the urgency of the need. Originally My offer was for 1800, but then on Andrew's insistence I upped it to 1950 - he wanted me to raise it further to 1975, but that was out of my budget as was 1950. Even at 1950 no dealer accepted my offer for a few days, and i lowered it back down to 1850 - and it got accepted - so its definitely luck and timing - i suspect end of year and christmas holidays had something to do with the acceptance at this price.

Anyhow - enjoy your lens!

I got a nice sharp copy and still a good deal. Love Greentoe. Unless I'm in a rush, I will do all my shopping through them.

Yah...I wish timing was faster. I see a lens on line and I want to get it before it sells out but I'm wondering what Andrew can do with the price. impatient i am.

Please keep us posted. I like my 50A (wow sharpness!) but I may like the 35mm length better.

Hi! Wanted to update- my accepted bid was $1700. My shipping experience hasn't been as good as others- not fast- but at that price, it's all good as far as I'm concerned. The retailer's customer service has been excellent. I paid via PayPal with my Discover and was able to get a portion of the lens price at 5x Discover bonus, so for me, with rebate and bonus points, the lens nets at around $1500. :) The only thing comparable was Canon direct with a refurb during the 15% off sale that I never seem to have luck in grabbing. Hoping so much that this lens is as awesome as everyone says because it's been crazy! Ha ha ha!

Does Greentoe & and the company(s) involved do a good job of giving the item for the exact price you bid (Including shipping), or do they not always stay legit and charge you more? I want to make sure so that I don't overwithdraw my account by putting in the amount I want to and them charging me more for shipping (I have read some stories on here where some were charged more than what was promised).

When you finally agree on the price - whether it's the first offer which is accepted OR a counter offer which is made, and then accepted - you get your item at the agreed upon price shipped to your door. No up sell no extra charges...that's it.

I'm not aware of GreenToe charging more than was agreed upon. I'd be curious to see those posts you mention. They may not accept your offer, and they may counter offer for a higher amount, but you are not obliged to accept that offer.

There are a lot of folks on POTN (who are seemingly bargain-hunting, gear-buying professionals) who have used GreenToe and give it a thumbs up. I don't think you need to worry about them being legit.
