GreenToe - Reverse Auction Photography Site

Sorry!!!! I promised myself I would come back when the lens arrived. It's HERE!!!!

East Coast dealer, but NOT the one I was expecting. That said, though shipping was slow, it was an authorized dealer...and the package was packaged beyond safely. I have never seen so much bubble wrap around a box before.

I am glad this is a great Disney lens...we are there a LOT and I previously used and really liked the 24-105 I sold to help fund the 24-70. it was a great copy- super sharp. I'm hoping I don't miss the reach, but the more recent trips found me keeping my 35 on and not removing it, so this made sense.

All told, for $1550 shipped after rebate? Worth the wait.

Recently my offer at Greentoe was accepted by a local dealer and the item is shipped. I was requested to raise the offer amount as my quote was less and the market going rate was much high. But just yesterday I saw the item being offered for $80 less than what was quoted to me as asking rate.

The question is would Greentoe consider and adjust the price or would I just need to cancel the order.

As per my understanding of this concept (and i could be wrong): Greentoe is like a reverse auction website - you put your price, and it may get accepted by some dealer, depending on a whole lot of factors including supply vs demand, excessive inventory at the dealer, dealer trying to reach a certain sales target within that period to reach a certain sales incentive slab etc.

Now since you have put your own price ( originally or adjusted to get accepted) - its your offer, and once its accepted by any authorized dealer, the deal is done. I am not sure how the process for canceling an accepted order works, but you can certainly try.

Now if someone else gets the same item at a lower price, does not guarantee that you too shall be able to get it at that price, again depending on the factors i listed above, you may get lucky, or not. This is just my take on the process, but as i said, i could be wrong and i stand corrected if this information is not accurate.

Yeah, it's like Ebay, but reversed -- some pay more, some pay less. Once an offer/bid is mutually accepted, it is a binding contract.

Another poll that would help my course of action is would there be any difference in warranty and service between a GreenToe vendor (my offer is being fulfilled by local NY vendor) as compared to the manufacturer?

Greentoe basically acts like a "matchmaker" if you wish. According to their disclosure, all vendors are authorized Canon dealers, so buying through Greentoe would be no different than buying directly from B&H and Adorama. So the answer to your question is: NO.

(Disclaimer: I have not yet made any purchase through Greentoe).

Any time before an offer is accepted you can modify it. So, to de facto cancel your order you can re-set your offer to $1, for example. If an order has been accepted I think you could still get GreenToe to cancel it, as they offer a return policy, but it would be more of an one-off kind of thing at that point.

You were asked to increase your offer AFTER your offer was accepted?

If so, that would be new. Would be surprised if GreenToe did this.

Or by "accepted" are you saying you submitted the offer on the web site but there was not yet an agreement on price?

That is unusual.

I THINK he meant that GT requested he raise his offer THEN it was accepted by a vendor and shipped.

I just made a new offer myself...waiting to hear.

Anyone get a 5D3 from greentoe? Placed a bid for $2600. Just received a counter offer for $2699. With the 5% discount from Greentoe and $300 canon rebate it would be $2260. Not bad.

Edited: I counter offered for $2659 and it was accepted. Only $2220 after all rebates. Pretty excited about the savings.

I tried one last time to give them a chance, 5 days later no bites so I went ahead and spent the extra $4.51 and bought it from B&H ..... I guess I can say Greentoe didn't work for me (my last offer was well past the meter being full green btw)

All of my experiences with trying to get lower priced items from Greentoe have been disappointing. Right before Christmas I inadvertently put an offer of well above market for a manfrotto tripod and there was nothing. After 5 days the offer expired and I looked at direct options and found it 30 bucks cheaper than my offer priceright on Amazon with free 2 day shipping.

I wonder if the lower priced items even get looked at half the time. Had a filter offer expire with no counters or anything either

+1 here too... it's really is hit or miss. I offered about the same price for both an 82mm B+W filter earlier this year that I offered recently for the same exact filter but this time in the cheaper 77mm size and it wasn't taken. The 82mm sailed right through and the 77mm offer was not accepted. I was solid green on the 77mm and yellowish-green on the 82mm so that seems to be a rather inaccurate measure of success. In my opinion the "red/yellow/green" scale is designed more to get you in to the "green" at a price point your likely to accept so you'll at least make an offer and be "locked-in".

I never heard anything from GT or anyone else for that matter on my 77mm offer so I must have been way off even though my offer was barely 10% below average retail... I'd rather pay full price and know who I'm getting it from (and when it's getting here) then to just save a few bucks and not know that. I guess high-end filters are in demand...
