Not sure if anyone here is also a member, but apparently DWF has been sold, and they've made a ton of what used to be private content public.

If you are or were a member and you're interested to see what might be coming up under your name, just go to Google and search for: "your username" site:digitalweddingforum.com

That's really bad, I used to be a member there but stopped my subscription after a couple of years when I realised I just wasn't using it enough. It never felt like home and whilst some of the advice was golden the natives always seemed somewhat hostile.

Everyone and the world now seems to be able to read the original post in many threads there. Some forum sections still seem to be locked down but some of them you can go through reading what each thread starter has written, including in the business forum which seems a really bad idea.

So many posts on just the first page with stuff that I am sure the posters would not want to be publicly viewable!

Hmmm, DWF is sold? No wonder I haven't seen/heard Jeff anywhere for the past while.

And it really sucks that they are now displaying original posts in threads. Seriously? WTF are they thinking? How is it good for anyone to publicly display a thread titled, "I want to fire my clients" with the entire description about how annoying and irritating they are? Seriously that is just bad. I'm not sure if I want to renew anymore. HUGE WTF!

Wait, so am I understanding this correctly,. What was a private member only forum, now all the old posts are open to the public?

Does anyone have a copy of the original TOS?
Any mention of expectation of privacy? (unlikely but...)

Wow, that is a terrible Idea!

Yes it was a private members only forum, with membership contingent upon paying a fee, and verification that you are a photography professional. It *WAS* a safe place where professionals could come together to help each other out when in need.

But now they have *sorta* opened it up. All the thread titles now appear publicly, and the first post in the thread is publicly displayed (which is usually where all the juicy stuff is anyhow) and then the first 60 characters of all the thread replies are displayed.

They messed up, it's actually more open than they meant it to be. The first post on each page is open, not just each thread. They've tried to hide peoples identities but they haven't done it well.

There was an expectation of privacy. The manager's getting hell on facebook, people have released his name and address which is totally wrong. His employees are getting hassled on their own business websites. Basically a massive sh.t storm is brewing. A LOT of people have said they're not renewing their membership.

The new owners (an investment group) tried to increase revenue. Maybe they will in the long term, but maybe they've killed it as well.

I think the new owners killed it. I don't think anyone is going to trust DWF anymore and it was already dwindling a great deal. I'm paid through Sept and I doubt that I will keep up with it afterwards.

Technically I suspect they've met the letter of the agreement as member profiles aren't visible, but not the spirit of it.

Smacks of people with no links to the industry coming in and shaking things up without any thought for the people they are shaking.

Can see it working long term but they better bunker down for the time being!

There are many in this industry who hide behind the disguise of " i just want to help and give back" that are strictly there to put $$$ in their pockets. Jeff and others are there to make $$$ and the expense of anyone........Look..the entire industry is full of photographers trying to make names for themselves, trying to get on the speaking circuits because there is big bucks in it. The MAJORITY of these speakers are getting 3-5000.00 to show up to events and teach a 6-8 hr class.

I will not be renewing my PPA membership this year. The Teaching staff has some of the worst offenders in this industry. The information being taught is often rehashed re polished basic 101 photography with pipe dreams of big $$ and sales averages being sold to the entry level photography crowd. Its really sad whats going on. When you really get into the meat and potatoes of it...much of the information is sensationalized and not true.

My opinion- if you need help with technique, spend $$ wisely and ask around before you sign up. In DWF's defense, I will bet the owner had no clue they would stoop to this when it was sold out..........bottom line.....a paid forum or online club like this is still on the internet...you should be very careful before you insert your foot in your mouth.....it can always come back to bite you

Mark my word....Some publication is going to publish an article with a headline like....What photographers really think about their clients...they are going to sensationalize the crap out of this and the industry will continue to struggle with issues such as this. They are not going to say.. wow look at the really good job John Doe Photography did when he captured this featured wedding ( never mind the fact that John Doe probably paid someplace to get it published)........Nope.. that wont sell. They are going to continue to publish crap like....Why you dont need to spend big $$ for a professional photographer,, find a college kid that knows basic photography to photograph your wedding,, This is what photographers really think about their clients.. you can bet its coming...........Bottom line....be careful what you say and do on any public forum.
