How do I post a screen-shot?

I am having a bit of trouble here. Obtaining a screen-shot seems simple enough. Posting it appears to be a convoluted process. Here is what I do:

1.) Obtain screen shot.
2.) Open Paint or PSE 11.
3.) New document from clipboard.
4.) Save as xx.jpg or whatever.
5.) Open and import that photo into LR4.4.
6.) Export as... to resize to 1024x1024 px, 150kb max.

Then I can attach it to a posting. Is there an easier way to to this? I can't seem to export from PSE, or Paint. All I can do is Save-As, then import and export from LR. There has to be better way. Thanks.

In paint after you paste it in just click the resize button.

Edit: I figured it out in PSE11, too. I have to "Save for Web" in order to play with pixel dimensions and file size. I wish this was possible with LR4. I use that more often.

I don't have LR4, but this has to be possible... I do this with LR3.

From the Library (with your picture selected) choose Export. In the dialog box, you can select the pixel dimension of your longest side, and limit the file size to whatever you want.

I've never used PSE, but in PS (CS5) I can press CTRL+ATL+i which brings up the Image Size dialog box (Also found under the Image menu). This allows me to enter the pixel dimensions of my choosing. (Attachment 1, below)

Next, I can choose the standard Save As (CTRL+Shift+s) which allows me to rename (I usually add _Resized). Assuming you had .jpeg selected during renaming step, you will then be prompted with a JPEG Options dialog, which allows you to select the Quality (Scale of 1-10). I can use this scale to change the quality (file size is listed below the Preview option). (Attachment 2, below)

Exactly the same in LR 4. The only thing to note is that with LR 4, at least, if it cannot for some reason achieve the required file size then it just fails to produce any output, but does not tell you it failed.

Thanks for confirming. I figured as much... I didn't think something such as this would be changed.

I use paint but I save it as a PNG instead of a jpg.
Then I upload to imageshack and use the IMG code so I don't have to deal with the 150K limit.

Yeah, I do this MOST of the time - specifically when it's pictures that I've taken, and more often when I want to share the same picture on multiple forums or with other people.

The only time I use the Attachment feature is when I'm posting images (e.g. screenshots) as above, that probably won't be applicable anywhere else. Another instance, is if I choose to apply my own edit to someone's image(s)... chances are that I won't be sharing that image with anyone other than the OP.

OK, I already know how to export from LR4. The problem here would be getting the screenshot IN TO LR4. The only way I see to do that is paste it into Paint/PSE, save it from there, then import (ADD) into LR4. Why would I do that if I can make a POTN-uploadable file from Paint/PSE. Is there a way to put the screen-shot DIRECTLY into LR?

Why do you want the screenshot in lightroom in the first place?

Lightroom really isnt the right tool for that.

I don't want it in LR. I want to post it with a minimum of fuss. Paint/PSE work just fine. I just don't use them as much as I use LR4. Being able to paste a screen shot in LR4 would make the process smoother than opening Paint/PSE and working from there.

That is just not the type of tool lightroom is.

Have you tried something like Screenshot Captor? It runs in the background and when you hit printscreen it will do the screenshot and then let you edit or resize it from right in it's own window.

This would keep you from having to launch something heavy like PSE or LR.

Thanks for the tip about Screenshot Captor. I don't do this often enough to worry about it, too much. Being able to do it in one shot with PSE is just fine with me. Thanks all, for the help.

The easiest thing [for me] is to upload to a hosting site (e.g. Imageshack) as mentioned above, and just link the file using IMG tags. Then you don't have to worry about resizing at all. You can also select the pixel dimensions as you upload, so you don't have to worry about changing that before you upload.
