I have a nice long Europe trip upcoming and wanted a 24mm TS-E. I already have the 45mm and love it, the optical quality is just superb even before you pull and push the picture. So I figured - the 24mm TS-E Mk 1 must be good enough, right? After all my 45mm is neither L nor Mk > 1. But I now don't think so anymore. I looked at reviews, sample pictures and the whole shebang and it looks like the 45mm was just easier to build with good quality and that Canon actually upgraded the 24mm to a Mk2 because the Mk1 was a little lackluster.

Is there anybody here who (ideally) has used all three of of the 45 and 24mm TS-Es? What's the scoop, if I like the 45mm will I need the 24mm Mk2 or is the Mk1 more equivalent than I think?

The decision has some consequences, in particular that I want a new CPL and the Mk2 uses 82mm.

Finally, the Rokinon 24mm shift-tilt is coming up:

What's your expectation where this one lands in the space between the Canons? It will probably be released in time for the trip. Also one of those 82mm frontage suckers, BTW.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

My opinion is that the TS-E24 MkI was the worst (optically speaking) of the three original TS-E's (despite it being the only L). The MkII has probably put it where one would expect it to be given the L badge. The MKI wasn't "bad", it just didn't have the output to match the others.

The TS-E 24mm Mk I tends to have chromatic aberrations. Other than that, it's fine. So if you can correct those in software, it might work for you.

I have the 24 Mk I and 45mm, and have played around with the 24 MkII (which is def. a nice improvement, though not enough to make me spend that much... yet).

Well **** it, I just pre-ordered the Rokinon 24mm shift-tilt.

And the upcoming Blackmore's Night album. Good combo.

I have only had and used the 24mm TS-E mk1, but I never really had any qualms about it. It has a fair amount of CA, but it wasn't so bad I didn't want to use the lens. I actually prefered it to my 17-40L as my landscape lens.
