I recently submitted my application for retirement. My wife has given me the go-ahead to buy myself a little present. I've had my eye on a 24-70 II for a little while now, and that tops my list. It also rounds out my lens collection nicely. I really do need an f/2.8 mid-range zoom.
Alas, being a woman, she has complicated the issue. She knows my 5D is quite old, and that I am happy with it, for the most part. She suggests that I may want a new camera, also. If I can afford either the 6D or 5D3, is there a significant reason to choose the 5D3? I mostly use center-point AF only. If I think I am going to need ISO 3200+, I can shoot my 60D.
I have read through the "Why 5d3?" threads and most people say high-ISO and AF are their reasons for going with the 5D3. The 6D is reviewed to be slightly better at high-ISO. It also has a higher DLA. I don't care about 2 cards - I've never had a problem with either CF or SD. All this and the fact that 98% of the time I am using the center point makes the 6D sound like a winner. Keep in mind, I am basically happy with my 5D, except for low-light AF, where it really stinks. I have to mount a flash just to use the focus assist.
The price difference is irrelevant. Size and weight is irrelevant; I still manage a gripped 60D and 100-400L. This will most likely be my last DSLR. Do I want/need a 5D3?
