hi guys,

recently i got tired of my 1d battery pack( need changing every 100-200 pics and charging take 6-10 hrs)

i diy a 10 packs of eneloop 1.2v rechargerable batteries and feed it to my camera.
12v@1900mah. (see pics below)
at this pack spec i would able to takes around 800 pics with full charges.

but heres is my problems:
the camera will get low battery massages every 100-200pics i took( then it wont taking pictures again, it just pretenting the battery is empty.)
now actually the eneloop still have alot power. i used em to power my 550d w/o problems.

everytime this happens, i have to reinsert the battery. (as show in my pics below) then this will trick the camera, and its starts to think its a new battery is inserted and starts taking pics happily :P

it just works for now, but this problems really confused me.

here is the simple diagram for how i did the pack.

basically i empty the original canon battery cells inside the battery pack. and wired my + - wires into the contact pins.

With original 1d you really got just 300-400 photos max (1dmk2 was much better already when it came to this). But I still wouldn't bother with this thing. I actually did similar thing once just for fun, except that I opened one of bad 1d batteries and changed battery cells for Sanyo Enelop batteries, and everything worked fine (instead of looking like your, it looked like original battery). But thing is, that 15-20eur Chinese copies of NP-E3 from Ebay work great, and 10 Sanyo enelop batteries actually cost more then 20eur, not to mention it's not easiest thing on world to fit all these 10 cells inside of original pack.

The np e3 cost 200 at my country. 12x eneloop only 130.
I already hace 24 eneloop batts myself haha.
One thing I hate about np e3 is it wont hold charges for long when time passed. Unlike eneloop u can charge it and use few months later.

I mount it on the bracket. Coz I know its hard to fit 10x eneloop in the pack.

I have mentioned this a few times on POTN, worth repeating.
Find a good rebuilder and get standard 1D batt case repacked with cells of choice. Good rebuilder will spot weld cells and you'll have a pack that fits perfect and lasts longer than original.
It cost me $130 for 2 repacks.
I could have got 2 aftermarket packs for less, prefer o use original cases.

That holder you are using is probably causing the problem.
11 mechanical joints = unreliable and high resistance.

Have you thought about getting a Lenmar or other aftermarket pack? I paid $35 for one and it saved me the trouble of repacking an original NP-E3.

I got some of the very affordable knock off batteries for about $16.00 each...

they actually had better newer cells so last longer, BUT the downside was the outer casing part that locks into the camera and seals it.

If you still have the original battery, you can swap the exterior lock onto the new knock off, and get a very good battery that fits and locks and lasts longer than the original for about $15.00

Further, if you have your AC adapter, it can be used for spares :)
Have not actually sussed out if you could pack the adapter with cells...

My 1Ds2 battery was on its last legs, ended up getting a couple from DealExtreme. After using them I don't think I really needed to get 2. Though for the money, you can't really go wrong to give it a try.

But you could hook it up to an external pack like ph2003 made, and the wires are already there!

Or just wire direct to a car battery.

thanks for all the inputs!

well i did consider buying the aftermarket battery from usa or europe.
the cost for shiping actually can buy 2 or 3 those batteries :( haha..... ( sucks for my country! )
i like li-ion cells if posible, most ep e3 is nimh cells tho, they dont hold charges very well with time decaying.

as mention in my previous post actually 200 is for aftermarket/3rd party battery... original canon sells for crazy 400-500... idk why.... lol

@Dave
well i think u pointed it out, that the holder might the thing losing power....
i couldnt find any good holder here:(
i guess ill keep searching for better holder

have you got access to a voltmeter? it wouldn't be too difficult to check the output voltage getting to the camera wasn't dipping too much, then you could work out if it's really the holder that's causing the issue or not...

p.s. good work with the DIY...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
