I am about to pull the trigger on a monitor calibration device, and I am strongly leaning toward the Spyder4Pro. Here is my concern though. I typically process photos on one desktop computer with one monitor, but sometimes I do process on a laptop and I sometimes display photos to clients on an iPad. I would like all three to be calibrated to match, or at least as close as possible. Will the Spyder4Pro allow this? It seems it will, but I am just trying to be sure. Thanks.

I recently bought a Spyder4Pro myself. I haven't done it yet, but yes, it should.

To be clear, I wasn't asking if they would all match perfectly, I was more trying to clarify that it could be used on multiple devices.

iOS is not color managed. Software like SpyderGallery claim to be, but assume sRGB images. And that only works for that App.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the feedback. Is there anyone, however, that can answer the main question? Can I use this on multiple devices? If it is not perfect on the iOS device, I can deal with that - that is not the device I process on. I just need to know if the hardware and related software will work on multiple computing devices.

Yes. But don't expect a laptop to display identical to an IPS screen.

The way I read the information regarding the DataColor application (for iPad, iPhone) is that you use the app and Sypder device to perform calibration. All of the pictures that are on your device (your image gallery) can be viewed from within the app... which is color calibrated. This way, any image that you view on your device (through the app) will be displayed with color correction.

I had trouble with the Spydr4Pro and returned it. Couldn't get the software installed because it froze on the validation screen. The tech support wasn't much help so I returned it.

Interesting to note.

Mine installed without any issue. I did the manual registration, where I just entered a code into their website, and I was automatically emailed a registration code. I prefer to do things this way when possible. It seems easier when I want to use the same software on another computer... and am just able to use the same registration code, rather than having to try and register again.

The express may be all you need. I have W7-64 and it works fine. Check out the licensing, to see if you can install it on two computers.

I had trouble with mine as well. I was trying to calibrate an NEC monitor. I share it between a MAC and a PC. It was even worse trying to calibrate with the PC. I finally purchased the NEC Spectra View II and it woke my monitor up. Very impressed with it. It is made by Xrite for NEC so I'm thinking the one Xrite makes for all monitors would be pretty good as well.

This looks identical only mine says NEC on it.

I see the colormunki which I see posted at POTN is an Xrite product as well.

Just curious: When you guys are installing... are you installing the driver before plugging in the device (Spyder)?

I also installed the DataColor software on my laptop earlier today, again without any issue.

I have had my editing monitor and my laptop screen calibrated by a Spyder 4 Pro for about 8 months, but I didn't know about the iPad app until I read it in this thread. Getting it to work was a hassle. Every time it started measuring it quit after doing only the red patch. One time it made it to the green before stopping. I deleted and re-downloaded the app four times before I finally got it to the end. Still, it's a clever idea, using the laptop as a server. It's not real color management, of course, because the app is not ICC profile aware, but the likelihood of anybody having anything but a sRGB on their iPad (other than by mistake) is small.
