Those Lenstip samples look quite horrible to me. I just can't believe Samyang would release unsharp lens, they have been on roll for sharpness for quite a while (35mm, 85mm, 14mm etc.) I am hoping for incompetent photographer or some bad early production lens.

The Samyang official shots look fine for me..

Let's hope it is the camera or photographers fault. Not the lens.

So who preordered?

I did.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

Could it be that Lenstip accidentally posted tilted pictures while saying they are 'uncorrected'?

Here is the website in which they say it;

Here's one of the pics I'm wondering about;

This is the one taken at f/8. You can see that the center is 'sharp', top and bottom of the photo are unsharp. To me, this could imply they used tilt...

x2.

Don't let the error of a tester sway you unless you really tried it in stores. TS lenses are usually more difficult to use correctly.

The samples are useless. I would like to see images at f/8 with 11mm shift straight up, left/right and in between. Preferrably whole frame filled with buildings so I could see how much distortion the lens has got.

Anyone can design a sharp lens these days if they don't care about distortion. Understandably with normal lenses distortion is possible to correct in PP, unlike sharpness, but shift lenses are such that the distortions are impossible to fix in PP.

Another review on a polish Website, Google translated

http://translate.google.com …l%2Findex.php%3Fn%3D16908 (external link)

The performance is somewhat lacking in respect to flare handling (blue flares and rainbows) and (measured) distortion. Even more than traditional lenses, TS-lenses are quite hard to get reviewed "right" imho. Until now, the reviewers are neglecting the usage for architecture and max-DOF landscape photography in their reviews, which is my key buying point for a TS-lens, versus fake miniatures.

Kind regards,
RayDee

In case somebody tries to order one I can save them some research time.

These things were supposed to be released today.

I had preordered on Amazon but they stayed at "in 1-4 months". I called them to ask whether they have any information whether they get some anytime soon or not. They didn't cooperate and didn't give any other information than what is in the product page.

B&H is still sitting there as "preorder" with release date of today.

Adorama had them with what looked like orderable to me, as in in stock. I placed an order, then called them to make sure they are in stock. They are not, they expect some next week. Meh.

There is a third-party seller on Amazon who claims that they have 12 lenses in stock. I placed an order on that one. No reaction yet, I hope there are no "communications issues" about what "in stock" means. (ETA: they now updated the order as "shipped")

Hope this helps.

Looking forward to some first hand reports when you get to know your copy... I would favor some edge to edge sharpness landscapes with tilt to get infinite DOF. And, throw in some shift while you're at it ;)
The flare behavior is something that needs to get some serious peeking too...

ephotozine's review seems to show very nice sharpness, though I don't see a chart for shifted shots.

Why are many reviewers of TS-lenses, focusing so much on the miniature landscape effect? Quite silly i.m.o. :lol:

I don't know a single person who have bought a TS lens for that.

Yeah. Unfortunately the way it was ordered now I'll have one more day delay because I couldn't have it shipped to the office. But as soon as I have it I'll shoot the first church that gets in my way.

The 82mm CPL already arrived so I'm all set to go.

Especially since they don't have a hood for this toy :)

Hmmm, the tracking number is bogus. Oh well. More suspense.

I am still not sure what to think of the ephotozine's review - mostly about corner sharpness. The Canon seems sharper. And that flare does not look good. But I guess better wait for more scientific reviews..

But I do like the colors this lens produces. We might get an viable option for the Canon 24mm TS after all :-)
