This may be a pretty trivial question, but I shot some photos of my son in a school musical. There are shots with just him in it, but there are others where there are other kids as well. Am I violating the letter or the spirit of anything if I were to post these photos with other kids in them on Flickr, or on POTN?

And even if this isn't violating the letter of the law or whatever, I certainly don't want to make any parents uncomfortable. If one of you were the parent of a child who happened to be in the frame when another parent shot a photo of the musical stage, would you get upset to see your child show up on an online forum as part of another person's photograph?

I really don't want to be running around asking other parents if it is ok, so if there is a doubt, I just won't put them up and just have them for the family album.

Any opinions?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I always have an opinion, so here goes: If I were taking pics of my kids or grandkids at a school function or sporting event, I will post them online without considering whether some other parent might get their nose out of joint over it. IF, however, they sent me a private message or asked me nicely to NOT post a pic publicly, I would most likely honor that, or crop their child out, sure. I don't think MOST parents would mind, but some might, and I'd evaluate my response on a case by case basis. There is no expectation of privacy at these things and parents have to know that pics are going to end up on facebook.

Thanks, Sue! That was basically my thought process as well. Appreciate your response!

I think it's ok as long as you are not using using for selling photos etc.

I am with Sue. I post everything on Facebook but if someone messages me I take it off or crop. I have never had anyone complain. I have nice equipment and I get more people thanking me for photos.
