Just got a GP-E1 and every time the camera is powered-off or even enters sleep-mode, all settings in "GPS device settings" are reset to default (i.e. compass disabled, auto time setting disabled, and update timing set to 15s).

This is on a brand new 1Dx with latest firmware 1.2.1.
I can only assume Canon firmware QA is nonexistent... :(

As a sailing instructor in a past life, I only ever used a GPS which had no compass at all, updates at the whim of the manufacturer, certainly not every 15 seconds as the update took longer than that!

Not sure why you need anything so critical?

Compass will give you the shooting direction, so it is nice to have for panoramas and aerial photography.

And after all, I paid for these features too !

Not familiar with the 1Dx but after you make your settings, do you need to do a "final" save?

No "Save" nor "Saveish" button around ... :(
Wonder if 5D2 or 5D3 users are having similar issues...
