14mm II prime, which for the most part should replace the 17-40mm.

Sold off my 135L and 1.4x mkIII. That leaves me with:

16-35 f/2.8
28-105 II
50mm f/1.4
85mm f/1.8
300mm f/4 IS L

Pretty happy with this set up... ;)

I am an amateur photographer and have a minimalist kit. I shoot wildlife mostly, so my go-to lens is my EF 100-400L. The kit lens on my Rebel T4i is the 18-135mm STM, which I'm mostly happy with for all other uses. I do like to shoot architecture, so, hopefully, a TS-E 24mm with my name on it is somewhere in the future for me. Since this is a hobby and the kit isn't making me any money, I just don't have the bank necessary for additional glass. But this has been an enlightening thread and has provided me with a lot of food for thought.

My "Burglar's Shopping List," i.e., things to look for in my house: Gripped Canon T4i kit w/EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM | Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM "Dust Pump" | Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-2 flash
Bungling photography since 2007.

cheers mate,
but how did this thread enlighten you.
typically, this thread strikes a cord with folks who have 4-6 primes and 2-4 zooms in their kit. you have two zoom.
i'm just curious.

I peaked at 14x L lenses (fourteen) and 4 bodies (5D and up) at one given time and was down to 5 when I realized I wasn't even using most of them and just left the "essentials". I went on hiatus for about a year or so but slowly came back shooting. Unfortunately, I have to motivate my self by buying a new L lens every time I stop shooting. I now have 10x L lenses again :-(

Well, I thought about my current photographic interests in light of what I read in this thread. As I said in my post above, I would be interested in getting a prime lens for architecture, and possibly the EF 100L IS macro lens sometime in the future. It was just interesting reading this thread to what my fellow photographers had in their kits, what they wanted to get, and what they wanted to sell, and why. Another thing was the fact that several posters stated they bought the same lens more than once, and that's what I'd be doing with the TS-E 24mm as I've already owned it twice but had to sell due to financial constraints.

Cheers.

I have not used the TS-E 24mm but I do love my 24L and my 100L lenses. These two lenses and the 40 stm are in my travel bag always.
The 100L is a great macro lens of course, and also a very good hand-held portrait and street candid lens. I will never sell either of these lenses.

My new 40mm stm has replaced my 50 1.4 thanks to the high iso low noise on the 6D

I also have the 40 2.8, I hardly use it now that I have the 24-70 2.8 MK II, but I picked up a 50 1.8... and tested a canon 50 1.4... I like the images the 40 2.8 produces way more. However 24-70 is better then both by far. Im considering the new Sigma 50 1.4 Art as a fast prime for night shots.

You haven't lusted for primes till you start shooting L quality primes ;p

Low budget primes are really hard to compare to top quality zooms, due to lack of contrast or not fast enough. But once you shoot the 50L, 85L, or 135L, hard to match that blur combined with top optics. That separation is incredible.

I agree with both of you. I don't hate zooms, I miss to connivence of my 17-55mm. But using a prime helps me to think about my frame I use, and where I need to be standing relative to my environment. For low light, nothing beats a fast prime. Remember, if I use my 24L at 2.8, the AF is focusing wide open using the 1.4 light, then stopping down when taking the photo. Whereas, my 40mm 2.8 is hunting for focus at 2.8 I will be buying a 50L and selling my 50 1.4

I would be interested in seeing low light photos, preferably indoors, done with a fast L and without a flash.
