14mm II prime, which for the most part should replace the 17-40mm.

How does it works?

I find it much easyier to feet-zoom with a >35mm than with a wide prime. I feel more confortable having a zoom on the very wide to middle-wide end, but still thinking of replacing my 16-35Lii with a prime..

I would say the opposite, I would be happy with a 14mm prime as an extreme for creative shots, but more comfortable traveling with a 16-35mm on vacation. Framing a landscape does not alway mean getting the widest angle possible.
Say I wanted a shot of a lake and mountains behind it, but don't need to include the parking lot and my feet when keeping the camera level. And I cannot walk into the lake to eliminate that. A 16-35mm would be ideal and my 24L and 6D are serving me fine, for now. (*repeat as needed)

I wouldnt ditch the 16-35 unless I had a solid 24mm covering (think 24-70).

14 to 24 is HUGE. If you want the greatest perspective distortion, 14mm gives you that (you can go even wider with the sigma 12-24 zoom). If I can walk up to the object I'm capturing, then the 14 makes a lot of sense, but if I cant, 24mm and narrower will work.

Yes the difference is considerable, my 24 on crop was not wide, it is wider on my 6D, but I am torn between the 14L and 16-35mm for connivence. I am getting a 50L first, then aim at the 16-35mm L II with Rokkor 14mm for extreme. First I must sell the two lenses in my signature before buying a new L

I'm a former UWA zoom owner myself. Had a cheapo Tamron 17-35mm which I thought was fantastic optically, but it just wasnt wide enough to give me the distortion I wanted. When I shoot landscapes, perspective is really important, and 17mm is just not wide enough once you start playing with 14 ;)

I would rather sacrifice zoom flexibility for FOV. Of course I would love a 14-24mm as well, but not a deal breaker.

essentially, I would take 14 + 24-70 for landscapes, than 16-35 + 24-70. Basically, you'll need to do some soul searching to see if it's for you.

I sold my trio of primes: 24mm, 50mm and 135mm to start again and bought a 85mm in the interim. My next purchase will be the 35mm, then ........

What are your favorite FF combinations of lenses for events, y'all?
Could be a fun exercise.

I'm working tonight. VIP social event. Indoors.
Since there are no boundaries ( like a wedding) I was going to go wide and standard.
5d 50L. 6d 24L. Flash in bag, for later.

My goto event kit:

6D + 24-70VC + 580ex
5D + 135L + 580ex

for smaller venues, 6D + 24-70VC + 580ex (excuse the blasphemy)

Take the lot, see what focal lengths suit best when you get there
I use a spider pro, belt holster to hold both cameras and a shoulder bag (Crumpler, million dollar home) to carry extras
Other times I use a bigger Crumpler or even 2 separate bags. One of my bags fits both bodies with lens attached, facing lens down, very easy to swap between the two, I use this when I don't want my gear on show or getting bumped in crowded places. Otherwise the belt is best.

If I had to only choose 2 lenses from your kit, it would be the 85 and 24, but it depends on the type of event and reach etc

I love using my 85L and 24L for family events. I know 24 is a little wide for most, but I'm a sucker for a wide angle perspective.
