BallerStatus

you could probably sell your 7d and 5dc and pick up a clean 5Dii, without spending much at all.

Good call. I may look into that as well. I do like having two bodies tho.

classic vs. II
if you were to upgrade to the mark II, you would benefit from superb IQ, like the classic, however...
- more megapixels to play with - not just for printing! more cropping ability
- better ISO range & lower noise at high ISo
- MUCH better and bigger screen, I couldn't use the classic b/c of the crap screen
- video
- live view
- 3.9 fps vs 3
- weather sealed
- viewfinder coverage
- 10% lighter

with the mark III and now the 6D, the mark II prices have been creeping lower and lower every quarter.

with all that being said, if you can't find a clean II at a nice price, you can just upgrade to the 6D. same old school AF system as the mark I and mark II, so it's not "supposed" to impress anyone who shoots sport.

if you love having two bodies, i'd just hold on to the 7D, even with any shortcomings. it's just super easy to shoot with. and I don't know how much you'll get for it, the longer you wait to move it. for me, the 70D is a unique 2nd body, in that it's like the 7D, it's easy to shoot with, the AF system is intelligent. it does video. it has the fold out screen. it has dual sensor tech. it has the ability to latch onto your desired subject, by TOUCHING AND MOVING YOUR FINGER ON THE TOUCH SCREEN, it's insanity.

Thanks for the input on my "gear quest". The 6D seems to check all the boxes for me, so that is likely where I will head. 5DII prices seem very similar to 6D, are there any advantages of the 5DII over the 6D? I would think the 6D would have better ISO performance (seems to be it's hat trick), has video, similar FPS, etc.

The 70D does sound cool, I have heard that it is similar to the 7D in a lot of ways with updated tech. The 7D has served me well for motorsports, but I keep reaching for the 5Dc instead. I may just sell it and the 5Dc and get a 6D, and rent a second 6D when needed for events. Who knows, lol.

oh by all means....
6D vs. 5DII
If they are anywhere near the same price, get the 6D!

if you see a 5DII - great refurb deal or a nice clean/used one at a great price - different story.
and I don't think the 70D is as powerful for sport, as the 7D.
it's a different type of beast. more of an all-arounder.

Yeah, from what I am seeing on ebay, you are looking at only $200-400 difference between the 6D and 5DII, depending on condition. Now I am really thinking I should sell both bodies and get the 6D (and rent second body as needed)....Decisions, decisions.

Here in Japan, used they are identical now.

Although that price on the 6D body is not much cheaper than brand new.

Yeah I am seeing several 6D bodies on ebay new for less than $1600. Used they are going for $1400+

FWIW I really wanted to try the 6D out, so when I saw a great combo deal on the 6D and 24-105L from b+h, I jumped on it. it included a mono pod, an sd card, and a canon bag. for $1950.
I sold the 6D on CL and my Dad took the lens.
Street value could be as low as $1200 by now, provided someone who bought low, is going to sell low.

Update on what I decided to do. Found a mint 5Dc for a great price, so bought it and sold my 7D on ebay (just dropped it off at the post office a few mins ago). I think going with both of the bodies will give my photos a more consistent look and I won't have to choose a lens/body combo over another because it will be "better". Liking this setup for what I am doing :).

After messing around with almost every lens that is offered for Canon mount, my setup is:

Canon 16-35 f4 L IS
Canon 70-200 f2.8 L
Sigma 35 f1.4
Sigma 85 f1.4

Thats it. Okay, if I have the money on Christmas there will be a 135L. May be... THAN its all. ;)

Nice! Great setup, I do have the same lengths. But I don't have the 16-35/4.0 yet.

16-35/4.0 | 35/1.4 | 85/1.2 | 70-200/2.8 is a really versatile kit.

The Sigma 8mm and 17-40L in my kit aren't mine. It is for my full time job as real estate photographer. That's why I can't change the 17-40L to a 16-35L.
