I've had my 50mm 1.4 for almost a year now. On my crop body, it was dead-on. When I moved up to my 6D, it seemed to front focus. I tried to Dot Tune the lens, but quickly ran out of MFA in the tele direction. Sensing something was off in my photos, I sent the lens back into Canon. They repaired the lens claiming that something was not right inside the lens, causing the focus issue.
I get the lens back, and now it almost seems worse. The softness in general is pretty bad. When photographing people/objects wide open at distances between 1-3 feet, the lens seems ok. When taking photos of people/objects between 6-20 feet, they get soft really quick. I understand that f1.4 is not the sharpest aperature, but should the subject still be relatively sharp at distances beyond 10 feet?
I'm attaching some 100% crops to show as examples (focus point is always right eye):
Here's another shot of a plant at around 3-4 feet. Focus was on large leaf in center.
I haven't tried MFA'ing the lens again, I was assuming it would come back better after the repair. The repair sheet in the box said if the issue persists to send back the camera and lens together. Maybe I should go that route.
Can anyone post shots of their 50mm 1.4 wide open at around these distances? I just want to make sure I'm not being paranoid.
