Need a prime: Help me to analyse my focal length

i never noticed barrel distortion but i also use the LR profile so i don't think that is much an issue. image quality is top notch, my copy was quite sharp wide open and even sharper stopped down, color contrast was excellent and as i said the lens rarely left my camera. It has been nearly a year since i owned it and i don't recall having any focus issue that Damien is referring to but maybe i am not critical enough to my own stuff.

i would suggest looking at the Lens Sample Archive for both the old and new lens, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Instead of analyzing your photos and picking a prime based on a focal length you use most frequently, I would look at photos shot on various lenses, and see which ones are used to capture the types of photos you're looking for....particularly in terms of the different perspectives shot on different focal lengths, due to different working distances (pay attention to sensor size)

The best prime for you may actually be one that covers a focal length you don't currently have at your disposal, or neglect to use. ie, if I went through your same thought process when I bought my primes, I would have overlooked the 85L altogether, which would have been a shame. I rarely used this focal length in the past, but now, its my go-to portrait lens.
