Recomendation for flash purchase

I'm considering purchasing a Yongnuo YN-568 EX and would like to know if anyone could recommend a reputable dealer. I'm a little leery of buying from China or Hong Kong.

Try Amazon. And look for a listing where the order is fulfilled by Amazon, rather than a 3rd party seller.

Of course, it'll cost you about $25 more than buying from, say, thephotogadget. If you're cheap enough to get a YN, then maybe you're cheap enough to make buying from China worth it.

Don't know why you're leery about ordering from china. Yeah the wait can suck (it takes about a week for the flash to even leave chine) but I've heard of longer waits coming from amazon.

My first suggesting would be thephotogadget.com. Great place, great CS, and if you do have any warranty concerns you deal with them and let them deal with the manufacturer.

If you still don't want to order from them then I'd say go to amazon and find one that is listed as "fulfilled by Amazon". If it does not say that then more then likely your flash is still getting shipped from China

Apparently you can afford the best money can buy. But I, on the other hand, am retired and living on a fixed income. So while it would be nice to support the Japanese economy by purchaseing all Canon products will have to make do for now.

Sorry, just a little early in the morning.

I ordered from amazon and had mine in 3 days, of course it was fullfilled by amazon in kentucky which is where I live, but still should receive it quick! I paid 95 shipped for a 468ex II to give you an idea of price difference.

In addition to the shorter shipping time, the wait to get something from China can be taxing, the other reason is if you have a warrantied repair. Many who purchased YN products before you could find them from US vendors found the cost of return shipping for a repair/replacement too much of a burden given the delay and cost.

I personally see no reason for you to be sorry. A shot is a shot and a simple smiley might have been appropriate if there was some sort of prior, ongoing realtionship.

That said, I always use the "fulfilled by Amazon" choice when available as I find it gets you the item far quicker, and returns are much smoother when required. I was amazed today by Amazon. I printed a return label yesterday at about 1:00 PM, brought it to UPS at 2:30 PM, and had my return credited to my Amazon card at at 1:00 AM, less than 12 hours after I shipped it.

It wasn't a shot. It was simple logic. if someone is willing to go with cheap Chinese build and save $50-$60 over a 430EXII to get a YN-568EX (the 568 is NOT an equivalent to a 580EXII or 600EX-RT. It does not have as much power, it does not have master capability, it does not have a thyristor mode), then simple logic dictates that someone that thrifty might also balk over the extra $25 it's going to cost not to buy from China.

You may also want to take note, I answered the OP's question with decent information and a lead to a reputable seller in China. It is only on the internet that people feel fully justified in kicking in the teeth of a volunteer who answered their question quickly and accurately, but not politely enough for their tastes.

OP: thanks for the apology. It wasn't required (as I've been in online 'net wars since the mid '80s and know how things get misread), but it was appreciated. I have had many a day where I wonder why the hell I even bother answering questions on messageboards. If someone is gracious enough to acknowledge I'm a human being, too, it goes a long way towards reminding me why I do it.

And there is absolutely no reason to be ashamed about spending reasonably. I was cheap enough to order my YN-568EX from China. But I also have the experience of owning a YN-560 that I purchased through Amazon, and multiple YN triggers that came from China to shore up my confidence.
