What is this? Was in Sequoia National Forest. SUPER curious. The smaller one wanted to get really close to us and the larger one would block it and force it back into the rocks. It looks like a beaver but had a bushy tail that was shorter. Wish I had more than a 5D MKII and 24-105 :(

Totally reminds me of one time when I was hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. I was hanging around this lake, when this guy comes hurrying up, saying "Hey everyone, come check it out! There's a baby beaver over here!" So me & several other people start following him to check out the baby beaver. As we're walking over there, I overhear him telling someone "It's such a young beaver, it doesn't even have it's tail yet!" I just about busted a gut laughing so hard! It was, of course, not a baby beaver. It was a marmot.

That is just too funny. Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

I don't know about Marmots, but they do look like our Woodchucks. Nice crisp shots.

I'll be, I just "Wikipedia-ed" to find that a Marmot and groundhog are not always the same thing.
