I currently have a canon XS (1000D) + tamron 17-50mm 2.8.

I am looking at the kit of this. I have 2 kids and i really like taking photos.

Is it a good idea if I sell off my current body and lens to get the sl1 plus kit? I mean IQ wise. I love taking potraits (i have a 50mm 1.8) and taking my current camera on trips is starting to feel too much work. I wonder if there will be an improvement from my current set up to getting the sl1 kit in weight and space perspective. (with the diaper bag and stroller and all those kids stuff...

My flickr page in my signature are current and shows my ability/inability with a camera :D if thats any help :D

Look into the kit with the 18-55 and the 55-250 stm lenses. Both are very good quality. I just picked up the 55-250 and I'm very satisfied with it.

These two shots are after I just took it out of the box in my back yard. Both these shots are at 200mm iso 400 & 320. I was testing AI servo.

I rented the SL1 for a weekend and used it with my Tamron 17-50 nonVC. The Tamron is not a super light lens, and one you put it on the SL1, the size isn't much smaller than a typical Rebel. The SL1 is ridiculously lightweight though, and with the 18-55 kit lens (lighter than the Tamron) yes, you will have a weight advantage that you will feel. The 18-55 STM is smaller and half the weight of the Tamron.
The SL1 will give you an increase in ISO performance as well. I found images at 6400 SOOC to be quite acceptable and was impressed. The touchscreen is VERY nice and will be hard to go back to non-touch screen afterwards ;)

I ordered the SL1 and a 40mm stm last week and they're currently sitting on my doorstep patiently awaiting me to come home and play with them. I don't plan to buy any ef-s lenses for sl1 unless it's the tamron 75-300 vc. I want to use this little kit for easy access.
I bought a LX7 but it doesn't come close to dslr quality, so I still carry my 5d and 50mm 1.8 everywhere. This will make my life so much easier and I can still get good portraits of my 1 year old and my 3 month old sons when I take them for walks. I wish that the sl1 was ff, but what can you do. If I don't like the quality of the photos, I'll just sell it and go back to carrying my 5d and 50 1.8.

Under $400 will be an amazing price!

How did you come up with that figure? I see $479.99 for the body and $599.99 for the kit. Is there a current coupon available?

This ebay seller has the kit for $575. He's got excellent FB. But by looking at his FB, it seems the kit was selling for $100 less just recently. Bummer, I missed out.

I doubt if you will be sending it back. I find it a very versatile little camera that give great results .. and it compliments my 5D2 well. I use it as my travel camera alongside my EOS-M.

Yeah last Saturday that seller had it for $475 with the lens just 2 days after I paid 468 for the body only. I was bombed out bc I could've used that kit lens for video since it's a STM lens.

Nah it's definitely a keeper, I bought it solely for its amazing video feature and small size. I'll still grab one of my 5D's for photos.

Picked up my new toy from Amazon after a sudden price drop on Sunday, couldn't resist.

$499 for the body with kit lens with a free Amazon Basics camera bag and 16gb card. Also added on the 55-250 for $150 off, so I ended up paying $615 for all of that before tax.

That's an absolute stead of a deal. I don't see how they even made any money on that one. That's a great package. Just add the 40mm pancake and your set. I just picked up 55 250 stm. Very nice lens. When you see the IQ of this lens it will make you wonder why the 70-200L has to cost so much money.
