At first I was happy with how these came out, but the more I look at them, the more I feel like something is missing. Is it just me, or are these too plain?

There is something missing.....the keys in my hand and me sitting in the driver seat!

I like them, but I'm paritial to Mustang's so my opinion may be a bit bias. I do think the car deserves a better location though. As strange as this might sound, the location is too....clean. For this car I want the photo to say "POWER", or "AGRESSIVE". Perhaps a place like a train yard. Right now this tells me..."new".

LOVE #2. What a gorgeous machine. Not so much an American muscle guy, but love the GT500.

Nice ride with good highlights in it. One thing missing for me is a contrast between them & the background which is mostly brighter than the highlights. Keep in mind that our eyes are drawn to the brighter parts of the shot. And those bright areas tend to make the dark subject look even darker. Take a look atPOST #30. The gray bar at the center is the same density all the way across.

And maybe a dramatic car needs a more dramatic shot? Carsofabq's 30sec night shots of a Riviera.

Haha yea. He asked me if I wanted to take it for a spin when we were done shooting, and I replied "Hell yes I do." So I got to do a nice 2nd through 3rd gear pull in it. Thing sounds sweet when you open it up. 662hp/631tq.

Thanks. Yea. #2 is probably my favorite too.

I agree with a more dramatic shot. He wanted to keep it local, and there isn't a whole lot of areas to shoot to get more of a dramatic feel in this town. But we do have some of those locations about 30mins in three different directions. I'm going to see if he wants to shoot again. If not, he said his coworker has a new track edition boss 302 mustang (the orange one) and wants some pictures taken. So I'll be sure to get some of that car.

And if anyone wants to take a whack at the edits to do some more advanced/dramatic post processing (I'm still really new to editing), let me know or pm me your email address and I can send you the original. I have them in .RAW and .jpeg. I'm curious to see what others can come up with.

If you want to try it yourself, take a look at this thread & the "Selecting" link in it: Need to remove a background from something? Using masks to hide parts of the image.
It's really not all that hard.

Does this link work for people to download the raw of shot #2? It wouldn't let me send it in a regular email since it's 25.6mb, so after doing a quick google search, the toobigforemail site came up numerous times. Just curious if people are able to download that file from this link? I can't view it on my work computer (started the upload on my home computer as I left for work).

  1. Opened in Photoshop CS6
  2. I pulled down the highlights and pushed the shadows a little in Camera RAW
  3. Opened the processed RAW
  4. Then I ran it through Color Efex using the Detail Extractor filter
  5. Then I flattened the image and created a new layer
  6. I desaturated the new layer and masked off the lights
  7. Then I ran Color Efex again using the Low Key filter and Lens Vignette
  8. Then I ran Pro Sharpener and sharpened the image

The building looks like crap, the car looks great.
Choose a better spot next time or use a long fast lens and blow out the background :D
