Having just downloaded CS2 I'd like to buy an instruction book to get up to speed ASAP. I'm not new to Photoshop, having used PS7 for a long time.

I'd prefer a training manual that could become a reference manual going forward. I see many books for sale on line, but sorting the wheat from the chaff seems impossible so personal recommendations seem the way forward here.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Richard, it's hard to know what to recommend, CS2 goes a long way back!

I did a quick search ("amazon photoshop cs2") and saw results for Martin Evening, Scott Kelby and Bruce Fraser, and each has something to be recommended.

Another consideration is Adobe's "Classroom in a Book" for CS2:

But, I didn't wade through them all in my CS2 days and don't know what to recommend. I probably would have gotten them all, but then it was time to upgrade to CS3 and then I jumped on Lightroom!

Richard, maybe see if your local library has Scott Kelby's Photoshop CS2 for Digital Photographers. I was surprised you can still buy a new copy of it from Amazon including the much less expensive Kindle version ($20).

Hey Richard,

I didn't know that they had those old versions available still. You can mail a cheap used copy to this place http://1dollarscan.com (external link) and they will scan and deliver a digital copy if you prefer that.

I don't think the CS2 version was 'that' much different than the PS7. There's a few new tools here and there, but for the most part it's mostly the same.

Good luck whatever path you choose.

That was my first thought, but sadly our county library has nothing on CS2 anywhere. Lots for CS3,4 and 5, but little else, not even to request from another library.

Since you are already experienced you don't need technical training beyond an explanation of the new features, so why not start with something free:

http://www.photoshopcafe.com/reviews/PhotoshopCS2.htm (external link)
Then get this which will expand your creativity and teach you to realize it in PSCS2:

Amazon has "Adobe CS2 classroom".
The only problem I had with CS2 is opening newer raw files.

Where does someone download CS2 when Adobe does not sell old versions of their software?

You can get around that by using the free DNG converter.

Make the DNGs compatible back too ACR 2.4. But you will still be using ACR 3.0 which was not all that great.

You can download it at the Adobe site (downloads).
