Can you help me identify this everyday object shot in extreme closeup/macro?

I am trying to complete a contest that requires us to identify items in a person's household which were photographed at extreme closeup.. There is one photo that is driving me batty because I know I have seen this item in extreme closeup before somewhere on the web in a similar "guess what this is" scenario. However, I am unable to remember what it is beyond a vague feeling like it had to do with office supplies (although I could be off base on that. I have been wracking my brain so hard it may be throwing memories out at random to get me off its back). I am hopeful that someone here may be able to help me with the identification. Hmm, maybe. It seems to be fibrous and at least partially woven. The background pieces look kind of rigid though
