Maybe I just don't have the creative mind of a photographer, but we live on acreage and I feel as though there's nothing to take pictures of outside. What do you take pictures of out in your yard and what is there to take pictures of? I try to go out everyday to take pictures but always get stumped because "there's nothing to take pictures of", at least that's what I think. All I see when I go outside is what I believe most people see - the sky, the ground, the trees, etc., but that's just it, nothing photo worthy.

Have you considered macro photography? It may open up a whole new way of looking at things.

I can totally relate to what you are saying - very similar situation. But I know my answer is as simple as getting into a different environment (which, by the way, is much easier said than done at this phase in my life :)).

I've never took pictures in my yard. Only for various testing purposes here and there.

What appears to you to be so routine might appear to others as new and interesting. Practice the art of composition and find a way to make it interesting to you, and you've come a long way to making your photos interesting to all.

Try looking at ordinary things from different angles. Get down low, get in close, get up high. Turn the lawn mower upside down and take close-ups of the blades. - work the scene.

I've found that putting a person in (at varying closeness, scale, etc.) always improves a space. :)

An exercise not yet suggested is to photograph the same outdoor scene at different times of day. Then compare the results. Look how the colors change when the light does. Look at the shapes the shadows make. See anything interesting there?

What does your acreage look like? Post some pictures and we'll tell you how you can get creative in it.

I live on the prairie. Most backyards are pretty dull. But if you're in the NW or SW part of town your backdrop is the Rockies. Sure they're 100 miles away - but still a million dollar view.

My back yard is a golf course. Lots or colors throughout the seasons. Deer and coyotes all year long.
Golfers when I'm really bored.

I live on acreage as well, but luckily, we have so many species of animals there is always something to challenge myself with. Birds are an interesting way to learn about flight and movement.

Agree about the shrubs trees etc and light, and don;t forget those skies! Any farm beasts there? Its a whole world of fun.;)

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.
