Mark III 1D + 40mm Lens

Would like to get feedback on anyone using the 40mm with the Mark III 1D.

Sounds like a strange combo to me. The 40 speaks of small and compact and portable, IMO.

I'm sure that would look weird. But the focal length should be nice.

I wasn't talking about how stupid it would look. I would like to know how the pictures turn out using this combination.

Yup I know. But why should they look different on the 1D Mark III compared to other cameras? There are many tests and sample images in the web (for example in this forum or at flickr) with different cameras and it turned out as a good lens for the money and because it is so small. It is good at full frame so it will be better at 1,3x crop because the edge quality will be better.

I imagine they'd turn out just fine. I used to use the Nifty Fifty (smallest lens available at the time) on my 1D3 when I wanted a light(er) combo to tote around.

I sold my 1D3 right before I picked up my 40, but I rock my 40 on my 5D2 quite often and it's a great little setup! The 40 is a high quality lens, both optically and build-wise. It's quite possibly the sharpest lens I've had wide open. It honestly impresses me every time I use it.

I was thinking about the same set up but didn't find any shots made by that combination. The 40mm would be great one lens setup for 1d3 IMO. In the end I went for 35/2 (the old one) and I was very pleased. It's not as small but small enough and offers near normal FOV on 1D3.
