I think this one went better. Used my 28-90mm 5.6 set to 90mm. What do you think?? 48 shots used.

May 02, 2013 22:27 | #3 The concept was my daughter was the only one willing to hold still long enough for me to get the shots....but wanted to be a butt and cover her face "Photography has no rules. It is not a sport. It is the result which counts, no matter how it was achieved." ~ Bill Brandt

May 03, 2013 01:35 | #4 I'm not sure the technique worked, since your main subject occupies most of the frame and there is no feeling of separation and intimacy. Bunnies will rule the world!

The sky is going to be OOF anyway, and ditto for the grass. If you were intentionally blurring background detail that was actually present in the image it might be worth the effort.

Well, before heading out to find worthy subject matter and spending the time it takes to put all of the shots together effectively.... I was just doing test shots to see if I can even get the effect with the one of the lenses I already own....since I don't have one of those nifty 85mm 1.8 lenses. I tried with my nifty fifty....but the distortion was too much "Photography has no rules. It is not a sport. It is the result which counts, no matter how it was achieved." ~ Bill Brandt

May 03, 2013 15:44 | #11 Here's another one (goats)from that day using my 28-90.... but you can see that I was too far away and it doesn't have the right depth of field. May 03, 2013 15:45 | #12 So maybe with the 28-90.... split the difference in distance from the subject between the one of my daughter and the one of the goats?? "Photography has no rules. It is not a sport. It is the result which counts, no matter how it was achieved." ~ Bill Brandt

May 03, 2013 15:46 | #13 A note.... I keep forgetting to set my white balance before starting the shoot :P Gotta commit that to memory :P "Photography has no rules. It is not a sport. It is the result which counts, no matter how it was achieved." ~ Bill Brandt

The effect is greatest when you use a longer lens and work relatively close maximizing the shallow depth of field from that combo, then stitch out images to replicate the field of view of a wider lens. Using a 50 would work if you are very close but its really better with longer lenses. You have to fix a white balance and put your exposure in manual so the images all have the same base parameters.
