ok, so a friend's mom referred me to her friend for the quinceanera...their on a tight budget & im of course no professional...the mom saw some of my people/event photos and contacted me out of the blue

i of course have a few questions & concerns as to what it takes to capture the right shots & make this 1st quinceaera come out great & lead to more work in the future

here a list of my gear

-canon 7d
-35L
-85 1.8
-28-135 kit lens
-580exII
-430exII x2
-white umbrella x2 w/ stands
-5n1 reflector
----im thinking about renting a 70-200 f2.8 for some indoor zoom shots, as i dont want to be intrusive to the party

what adive/tips do you professionals with quinceanera experience have for a 1st time shooter at this type of event?

is there anything in particular i should be aware of/concerned about?

is my gear sufficient for this event?

how do suggest getting those family/court photos done quickly & accurately?

any misc ideas/tips i should keep in mind during the event?

thanks

+1 ....good tip! I once worked an event and they had a taco bar....mmm so good.

The quincinera is a coming of age for the girl...make sure you capture the emotions. Especially if you're gonna have a 70-200 2.8.

Quincies are like a mini wedding without a groom. Treat it as such. I'd tell you to price it as such, too, but you may be past that stage. Be prepared for formals with her parents, siblings, and extended family, plus all her friends- both in the church, and at other locations. The dress is usually just as elaborate as a wedding gown, so get some detail shots of that also.

A nice bonus is the girl's friends may also be close to that same age, and may need a photographer for their own quincies, and you could get referral business. Give her entourage a few clicks of the shutter by themselves, too.

Here is a link to a Quinceanera/Sweet 16 that I shot if you want to take a look. They were sisters that were less than a year apart in age. This was my first "real" event that I ever shot so take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully it will at least give you some ideas.
