Yes it is. I should get the 24 to match my 40 pancake
The 24 blows the 40 away. I sold my 40 and stuck with the 24 2.8 & 50 1.8 stm

I sold my 40 and stuck with the 24 2.8 & 50 1.8 stm Does the 24 STM have the same slow, loud focus motor as the 40 STM? Or is more like the 50 STM (which is still audible, but at least its faster). The 18-55 STM example is dead silent and very fast to snap to focus (faster than the 50 STM actually it seems)

There are two types of STM implementations: direct drive (10-18, 18-55, 55-250, 18-135) and screw drive (24, 40, 50 mm). All screw drives are slower and louder than direct drives. I have all three primes at the table right now and they sound the same. Actually 24 and 40 are identical, 50 has a bit higher pitched sound but basically it is the the same. 6D | 40D | 24mm/2.8 IS | 35mm/2 IS | 40mm/2.8 | 50mm/1.8 STM | 17-40/4 L | 24-105/4 L IS | 70-200/4 L IS

It's been quite a time I didn't post anything here I have been on a recent trip to one of the most charming places I have ever been, and have experimented brining only two primes (50mm 1.8 stm and 24mm 2.8 stm), and an UWA (10-18 is stm) . The choice has been perfect : light, good for urban usage, and possibilities for low light (the 10-18, despite not being fast has good IS and can shoot 1/2 second without worries without tripod. Here is some pics I took .... will be uploading a bit more to flickr the next days, if someone is interested, will post more ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() https://flic.kr/p/QV3bY2 https://flic.kr/p/QHwj1w These are beautiful. I especially like numbers 2 and 3
