I'm having a complete nightmare trying to download the CS2 Photokit Sharpening plug-in by Pixel Genius (version-129). It keeps wanting to place itself into PS7, even though I've uninstalled that programme!

I have also tried to browse for the plug-in folder in CS2, but simply cannot figure out the "route" into the folder.

I freely admit I'm not computer literate, so any help will be much appreciated. I simply don't understand why it has to be so difficult.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

The installation path differs depending on whether you're using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. The ReadMe file that ships with v1.29 of the plug-in shows the following installation path:

For 32-bit Windows:
C:\Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Plug-Ins/Adobe Photoshop Only/Automate.

For 64-bit Windows:
C:\Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Plug-Ins/Adobe Photoshop Only/Automate.

The more recent versions of the plug-in have a different installation path; presumably because current versions of Photoshop no longer have a "Adobe Photoshop Only" sub-folder in the Plug-ins folder.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-ins\Automate

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-ins\Automate

These folders are usually hidden so they can't be viewed in Windows Explorer unless you turn on the option to "View Hidden files and folders." But you can certainly input the path into the Photokit Sharpening installation box and it should work.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-ins\Automate

Many thanks for that information. Pixel Genius have told me to use the 32 bit version.

I can track Adobe/ Creative Suite 2/Plug-ins, but that's where it goes wrong. For the life of me I don't see "Automate" anywhere. Oddly there are two routes into CS2, but only one of these allows me to find "plug-ins".

My installation path into the plug-in module is as follows:

c:/Program Files (x86)/Creative Suite/Adobe Creative Suite 2.0/Photokit Plug-in Module.............

And that's as far as I can go. There is no Automate anywhere to be seen!

Did you accept the default installation options for CS2 or did you install it to your own custom location? There's no reason for Creative Suite, etc to be in the path unless you did a custom installation. And even then there should be an folder titled "Adobe."

I don't know enough about all this to do anything but simply accept what the software wants to do. Believe me I changed nothing.

Yes, there is a folder labelled Adobe, but its weird, CS2 is labelled twice and neither is in the Adobe file! See attached. It may be because I installed CS2 before uninstalling PS7?

What's in the folder named Adobe Photoshop CS2? Can you open it and show a screenshot of its contents?

I"ve owned every version of the Creative Suite and I've never seen it installed like that...seems to be a lot of redundancy in the folders.

Certainly, here it is, warts and all. Means absolutely nothing to me I have to say.

OK, I think that's the correct folder to use in the path. But before you go on, open the Plug-Ins folder and post a screen shot of it.

BTW, what version of Windows are you using?

Also, I noticed the Photokit Plugin Module folder in the Creative Suite CS2 folder which indicates it was installed incorrectly. You will need to uninstall that ( and any other version you might have done) before reinstalling to make sure you don't confuse Photoshop with multiple locations.

I'm so grateful you are helping with this you cannot believe.

I'm using Windows 7. And the Plugins.dll will not open, it asks me to show what programme I wish to use to open it. I'd have expected "Automate" to have appeared somewhere.

By the way, Pixel Genius are saying it will never load anywhere if I don't unzip the installer. But I'm doing everything the dialogues tell me to do religiously, what else can I do but follow their instructions?

I've found another reference to Photokit so have shown the path here:

I was referring to the Plug-ins sub-folder shown in the Adobe Photoshop CS2 folder...can you post a screen shot of that?(its the 5th folder from the top in the earlier screenshot).

And yes, you will have to uninstall those instances of Photokit before installing it in the correct place.

Also, which version of Windows 7? 32- or 64-bit? The Windows version makes a difference in the installation path.

I think you reversed the paths for the Win 7 versions. My CS2 folder is in the Program files (x86) folder on a 64 bit system. The path on mine:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\Adobe Photoshop Only\Automate

Preeb,

I followed your path on my PC and I see Photoshop 7, not Adobe Photoshop CS2. However after that its the same as your path all the way to Automate.

But I no longer have PS7 installed, so why on earth would it show up on that path now? But having it still installed when I loaded CS2, is it possible that CS2 chose a different installation path to avoid PS7?

For some reason your installation of Photoshop CS2 did not follow the default installation path. I think the following path will work for you: C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-ins\Adobe Photoshop Only\Automate

The reason I asked for a screenshot of the Plug-ins folder was to verify that there is a "Adobe Photoshop Only" sub-folder there but you never posted what I asked for.

BTW, the installation routine should ask to locate the Automate folder for you; you should see following screen prompt:

If you don't then you can manually enter the path shown above into the Destination Directory input box. Also, make sure you uninstall the previous instaces of Photokit Sharpener before using this corrected path.
