Sooo...right now it looks like I can get a refurbished 35mm 1.4L from the Canon direct store for about ~$1,070, plus shipping. B&H sells this lens new for like $1400 I believe. Is it just me or is this too good to be true or something? This sounds like an awesome deal. Never bought a refurb before though. Any opinions?? Thanks!

I'm hesitant about buying refurbished for some reason. But it's sounds better than shelling out an extra ~$300! What to do...

Is the 90-day warranty a huge risk?

L lenses are built like tanks. Is there a risk? Always. That said, it is coming straight from factory and my guess is that if is going to have an issue with something it would be within the first 90. If I was shopping for this lens I would buy that.

If you don't care about having the box for reselling purposes I'd buy it. Half of my lenses are from canon refurb and they perform just as well as my other lenses purchased new. Lenses are often in brand new condition and I never needed the warranty even on new lenses so don't worry about that. If you ever bought apple refurb, canon is similar to them...pretty much getting new without box.

Nah, I don't care about the box too much. I would be keeping this lens for a good while or could easily just sell to a friend. Do the refurbs have a lot of cosmetic blemishes? To the body, not glass, or course.

I would just use it constantly in the first 90days, just to be sure I guess!:)

I have purchased from Canon Refurb several times now, and have zero hesitation about doing it again.

I'm writing this on my refurbed MacBook Pro ... I have several Canon refurbed lenses and they've all arrived in brand new condition. You may have an extended warranty already built in (for free) depending on the credit card you use but check your CC's policies. If you should have a problem with the lens you most likely will discover it within the first 90 days anyway.
