Title says it all (I hope).

Own both at this time, which one to sell:

1D is faster to handle, 45 AF points, identical outlay of controls as my 1-series film cameras, better for action

Con: weight, 1.3 crop, battery life, possible repairs (no parts to be obtained)

5D is lighter (w.o. batt grip), better image quality (?) for landscapes, but use my film for that anyway

Con: slow to react to shutter button, different outlay of controls, wgt my 1-series film cameras

I would buy the 1D because of the better AF, better handling, 1/500 syncho speed and 1/16000 shutter speed (if you want to use it with ultra fast lenses in the sun).

Not comparable imo, 5D beats the original 1d in every way except build and AF. 4mp won't get you far today. Consider the 1D2 or even better the 1D2n which should sell for about the same as the 5D (they do here in Denmark). They are more comparable IMO, and very similar in IQ. I have the 2n, and it's a wonderful camera if you accept the limitations of a 7 year old body. Had the 5D, great camera as well. I have since replaced it with a 1Ds2.

Edit: Sorry, misread your post - you are selling and not buying. Sorry!
I would keep the 5D, though I believe the 1D is worth nearly nothing today. With that in mind I would consider keeping both :)

All depends what you are shooting but as Hygaard says the 1D has such a low re-sale value I would keep it and use it (I have one and it still gives great pics) .. :)

Use Canon 10D, 40D, 1D Mk1, 2 & Mk4 plus a 1Ds and 5D Mk2. Canon lenses (fav 24-105 f4L). Nikon D2HS and Fuji X Pro 1 & 2. Love um all

Without knowing what you shoot, any suggestion is a pointless stab in the dark.

Thanks.

I use digital cameras for events (being it (outdoor) sports or family occasions), during which I make a lot of pictures and do not want to have to worry about how much films there is left in the camera.

I find that the 5D is really slow to respond to shuttes(button) and in less than perfect light will focus slowly or not at all

The 1D will net you around $200-300 and the 5D will net you around $500-600. The 1D using firewire becomes ever increasingly more difficult to manage, 4 mpx is very limiting, etc. The 5D, as you state, isn't great for sports and other events where the 1D works well. I would sell both and add a little more to the pot, and get a lightly used 1D3. Battery life will trounce either of the other 2 cameras, IQ will be as good or better, etc. The 1D3 ergos are improved over previous 1Ds as well.

I don't find the 1.3 crop to be any kind of disadvantage at all, as a side note, but it is a personal preference.

1dmk2 in that price range. If higher budget then 1dsmk2. 1d no way, nice camera but man those batteries, high ISO is no good IMHO.
