Well I dragged myself out of bed early this morning... tough for a university student, but it was worth it! I found a red-bellied woodpecker nest and caught a decent swallow in flight. I saw lost of migratory song birds but didn't get and good enough shots to post :p. The woodpeckers were shot with my kenko 1.4x on my 400mm, I stopped down to F9.

Here is the pair

The male

And the swallow! Man the 400mm f5.6L is fast.

Very nice. I keep watching a newly constructed hole in a nearby tree. Hope it is a Red-Bellied nest, because they have been hanging around my area.

Thanks, we see a pair at our feeder fairly frequently however it was neat to find a hole in the wild! I wonder if it's the same pair, that hole is probably 3km as the crow flies from my house through the forest.

The nest I am watching was visible from my kitchen window, but now the leaves are starting to obstruct my view. Still no activity as of yet...fingers crossed!

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.
