Hair

Saw something moving in the very dark underside of an overhanging branch. Could not make out what it was due to the strong backlight and my dark glasses.

Climbed up a retaining wall and wah... hundereds of these guys were clustered around that underside.

Due to my precarious position could only grab a few quick shots. That was a couple of days ago. I want to go back with light and tripod but wonder if they will still be around.

Any one know what butterfly these belong to and how long will they stay this way?

These pics in no way do justice to the massive collection up there. One of the most most unusual sights I have ever seen.

Did you touch them, because they are very toxic and there hairs cause extreme irritation.

I might be wrong but our country has been invaded from Europe.

Kew Gardens is trying to kill them and staff wear protective gear.

Thought they where "Oak Processionaries" but not sure, even so heed caution.
