I thought that this marvellous snake was deserving of a post all its own.

Eyelash pit viper, yellow phase (Bothriechis schlegelii)

Taken with the mpe at 3x mag. To take a shot like this you need to be pretty confident about the temperament of the snake and I wouldn't recommend getting this close under normal circumstances. Fortunately this particular specimen was docile and despite some warning tongue flickers neither I nor the snake felt threatened:

Now that is one scary looking snake! It looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie! LOL Great photos how close to that snake were you. It looks like you were allot closer than I would ever care to be! LOL

Gorgeous snake!!! Absolutely LOVE that last photo with the details in the eye and skin! Understand about the temperment. I was photographing a Western Pygmy Rattlesnake several years ago that had it been non-venomous, I wouldn't have hesitated handling it. Critters are individuals, too, and if you pay attention, they usually have quite a bit to say! :-)
