I definately like it, if there was anything I might try it would be a more centralized crop on the right half of the shot just because of the washout on the left, but other than that I think it is a great shot. It has excellent color, and focus.

very cool indeed. I agree with Jump about maybe cropping out the "blown out" part to the right, but thats only a minor gripe about an excellent pic!

yeah i wasnt sure what to do about that. i like the gradient from white through blue to black across the image. maybe i should have stopped it down a bit...

if i had shot in RAW would i be able to salvage some of that blown out area? i havent tried shooting raw yet... sounds complicated! and worried about filling up my hard drive...

RAW could definately sort out the "blown out" area because you can drop the exposure by 2 stops with RAW without the image degrading. You could then "Fill in" for the (now lost) shadow detail to bring it back. Give it a try.......It's well worth it!. Just takes up time and hard drive space!

I like the transition into the blown out left side. It is a mystifying effect, like going off into parts unknown, into infinety or an abyss.

Don't be scared of blown highlights if that's the intent - nice pic. But pluck up the courage to try RAW, hard disks are cheap at least then you can choose to blow the highlights rather than having it done for you!

Have you tried it in B&W? Its nearly there already and I wonder if the bit of colour is distracting....

I think i prefer colour, i really like the colours of the bits of nets and rope tied to the pier, thats my favourite bit

as for the conversion, is it acceptable? i dont really know what i'm doing, just fiddle with sliders and things til i get something i like!

Its strange, Its dark, Its a little scary, It's an awesome image! I like it.

You know, I think I've actually been there. My husband went to Portsmouth a lot for work about 10 years ago and would walk by the water every night. It was a very nice area, fog sometimes. Great shot. Thanks.
