This GHO mother returned to the nesting cavity to tear up some food for her youngest of two owlets. The larger owlet has little trouble doing that on his own and they are trying to branch out but will have to jump down a foot or two to do that. From my observations these past few weeks, meals have been from rabbits and gulls but in this instance she raised the leg and foot that I think belonged to a Coopers Hawk , based on the size and thickness of the leg. Some think prehaps a Sharpy....Any ideas on what it is? A monster crop is added to help with the ID and a third image to give a better view of the female GHO.

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.

Can't help with the ID on the talon but excellent series. I followed a Coopers Hawk nest many years ago and all 4 chicks were taken by a GHO family...found some of the chicks half eaten hidden in the near-by tree canopy.

Gary, cool series, especially with the leg sticking out of a Cooper's, I think, because of the thickness of it.
