I'm using BBF on my camera but it seems like I am getting inconsistent shots. I don't seem to have any issues when I use the shutter release as my focus button. Any advice?

Then you are doing something wrong, since the focusing per see is identical, regardless of which button you use.

But if you for example focus with the back button, let go, the subject moves and then you press the trigger, well, in such a case you'll not get the subject in focus, of course.

Can you be a little more specific? What exactly do you mean by "inconsistent results"?

Posting some example pics with EXIF attached would help greatly.

It may be an obvious suggestion, but if shutter release AF gives you the right results, there's no shame in using it. Different strokes...

In my experience it takes some getting used to. Either persevere or give up. Once you feel comfortable with NBC you won't want to go back.

What focus mode are you using? One shot or AI servo? One shot focuses once only, when you press the focus button, so if you don't press the shutter button almost immediately your subject can quickly go out of focus (especially with a narrow DoF).

AI servo on the other hand continually refocuses as long as the focus button is pressed (and you correctly track the subject) so they will remain in focus even if you don't press the shutter release for a few seconds.
