Make it a wallflower or fix it?

There's no focus when I zoom the lens. Otherwise, it works fine, both in macro or lens left retracted. Canon repair suggests a $200 cost.

I do love this little bugger.

That lens was the best part about the G9. What is the price of a refurb?
If you are brave you can get the lens assembly for 89.00 on Ebay new.

If still functional at wide side of lens, I say use it as is and consider it a prime lens nice package that you don't want to part from till it part from you.

Just the time lapse function of the G9 worths to keep it for those very special occasions.
I don't know what went wrong with Canon to take this off the newer models in G line.
Really pity.

Kevan, I have a G9 parts camera that one day I am going to use to fix mine with.

I need the main circuit board as mine had the "non existent from Canons point of view" screws fall out inside and toast the circuits.

Do you know what part is needed to fix yours? Do you know if it is something mechanical or electronic?

My donor camera was dropped with the lens out and it got stuck in that position.

Are you able to screwdriver this thing yourself to fix it? I have had mine apart and although a little intricate, it isn't that bad to dis-assemble.

If the parts I don't need to fix mine are ok to fix yours, I will ship it to you no charge.

You could try phoning carmerasandparts.com and see what 'package deal' they have for the repair. I think I got the URL right, but if not simply do a search on this forum for the G9 repair...

I had my 'loose screws' repair done by them and was wll satisfied. They actually have people you can talk to -- bottom line, it depends upon what you use your camera for... specific feature this ERA of the G-series offered, or are there other substitues.

Don't give up the ghost easily.

Does B&H offer repair service?

What about having the camera converted into an infrared?
