This was the only picture I took of the Statute of Liberty last May when I went to NYC. I used to visit her at least once a year with my class. They don't allow tourists to go past the feet anymore since 9/11. I really wanted to go to the top. I've only done it once when I was around 10. Anyone want to post their Statue of Liberty pictures?

Thanks for responding. Yes. The Statue is pretty tall, but the bottom floors are a museum on the inside. Several years ago the city paid to have her straightened as her structure was coming in on itself. She is made of copper. In doing so, they put an elevator inside that goes part way up the center. Once that was done, people were able to ride almost to the top. But with 9/11, security has always been an issue. The park police search you before getting on the ferry, but still, they don't allow it. It's such a national treasure, the park police won't risk it yet.

Nice shot Suzy

I went over to Liberty & Ellis Island last in March 04 and you weren't even allowed in the structure whatsoever.

I still had a great time, Ellis island is a facinating place too. :)

Thought I'd knock the colour out of one of my snaps just to add another dimension.

Climbed to the top some 30 years ago. It was tight for me, but a fond memory. Your photo is very good.

Thanks. I went up as a small child, maybe 10. I remember the double helix stairs to the top. I looked out on the headpiece. It was a wonderful sight of the water and NYC. The space was really tight on top. One of my friends got to go all the way to the torch. It is a shame it is not allowed anymore.

Nice B&W shot, Buggbairn. Sorry you didn't get to go in either. That trip was the first time I had been to Ellis Island too. It was very impressive, full of spirits of people with great hopes coming to America. It was sobering.

Thought I'd add these two. The first is of Ellis Island. The last one is a shot taken behind the fences at Ground Zero. I stood there and cried and thought for about 30 minutes.

I'm not sure what you mean. I have a link to what was building 7

http://www.911review.org/Wiki/Building7Collapse.shtml (external link)

Is there a building going up to replace it? All I saw were trains 4 stories from ground level that are still running. The rest is desolate.

Nice pics. I was even at the Statue in April with the same security measure. I'll have to dig to see what pictures I have.

Go for it! I happened to be there on the most sunny beautiful in May. Felt very lucky.

That new building in the background. Isn't that the new Tower #7? I saw something like that on NBC news and I think it was that building. Apparently its 57 stories tall.
