Hello

I am trying to track down the answer to a question for my boss. They have asked me to find out what the FOV, measured in mms, is for the iPhone 5, full size iPad, and ipad mini. This is driving me bonkers, as I can't find in anywhere, and I am certain its because I am not asking the question right.

Can anyone help? Thank you!

Yeah, you aren't asking the question right.

FOV is measured in degrees, it is an angle, so doesn't come in mms.

What I suspect they may be asking is "what focal length lens would need to be fitted to a 35mm camera in order to give the same field of view as the iphone 5 etc."?

There is no answer to fit the question as you pose it.

I just googled "35mm equivalent iphone 5" and found that it has a 4.1mm lens which gives an equivalent FOV to a 33mm lens on a 35mm camera.

So, that's one down. I'll leave the other two up to you.

take a look here, you can see a comparison of various iPhone cameras: http://www.anandtech.com …30/the-iphone-5-review/16 (external link)

the iPhone 5 has a focal length of 4.1mm ... the 35mm equivalent is 31mm... so FOV is somewhere in the neighborhood of 82 degrees.

Edit: Please disregard my response below. More helpful answers came in while I was typing my post.

sandpiper nailed it. Are you looking to find out the equivalent lens for each of these devices when they are not digitally zoomed in?
