So I just won an auction on Flea-Bay for a slightly used G15. Being that I pretty much know my way around a 1D3 and 1D4, any tips or tricks in regards to getting the most out of it? This will definitely be the go-to camera for travel and family stuff (probably half of what I shoot), and a walk-around camera as well. It will be nice not having to carry a full-size camera to a family cookout (family looks to me for pictures, since even without high end gear I'm the only one that seems to know how to take a picture...)

If I have time tonight I'll dig through Canon's web site for the manual and see what's up. I've been researching this purchase for about a month, and for NOW I feel like I've made the right decision.

Thanks!!!!

Welcome to the club :-)
I'm also getting to know mine a bit better, had it for about a month and love it. I have since discovered it works with my yn622c triggers as well as my yn568 flash mounted on top, although it does look a bit weird. I don't find my self using the viewfinder much though, but love being able to control almost everything with one hand. I think I might invest in a hand strap.

Buy a handstrap and the small 270EX flash or the 90EX to fire something off camera. When I carry the G15 I seldom carry a real tripod or monopod but I have a small ultrapod I do carry. The lowepro Apex 60 AW fits camera, spare battery and card. The lowepro Apex 120 AW holds camera, flash, OCF chord, tripod, spare battery, Delkin 8 pack flash batteries, extra cards, quick mount Manfrotto plate, remote shutter release and more. Have fun. I have always had a G as my daily knockaround camera.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a 600EX, but guess that really won't be functional on the G15... I think the 600EX might even be bigger than the G15! :)

Was also thinking of maybe a Gorilla Pod, or something small like that. Seems it would fit the G15 well.

Thanks for the case recommendations. Don't think I'll be having enough with me to get the Apex 120, but the Apex 60 should be worth getting into. When carrying the G15 I won't be too worried about backup stuff like if I was shooting a job. For that I have a backpack with a 1D3, 1D4, 300 f/2.8, 70-200, batteries, cards, etc... But I should definitely get something to carry it in.

You are welcome. Yes the 600 would be akward as my 420's seem too large. The 320 is about as big as I would go if I was going to be on camera any. My son has a Gorilla Pod but I could never warm up to it.

I've never owned a Gorilla Pod but have seen them around for forever. What was it about it that you didn't like? Your answer might be something for me to consider before buying one...

It was just larger for about the same versatility as the ultra pod. Most folks give good reviews of the gorilla pod as you know. If I'm not going to carry a "real" tripod I want it to be as small and light as possible and still function.

I saw those, and waiting for the first one I can do. I should get it delivered by the end of next week. :)

Hmm... never heard of the ultra pod. I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

I've been using an Ultra-Pod II for several years. It's quite handy.

An in-betweener recommendation - I've found the Lowepro Apex 100 AW an excellent compromise between capacity and dinky size. It's got a good carry handle, but is equally at home belted on your hip:

^I have the same bag for the G15 and 270ex II, extra battery, memory cards, etc. For carrying only the camera, the Tamrac 5689 is a perfect fit for everything listed above, just no flash.

Nice...

Not sure about a flash yet, but it's cheap enough anyway. Just for laughs I'm going to put the 600EX on it... :)
