Booked a trip to England for later this year. Looking for any advice from renting an apartment / hotel, to places to visit. Not sure if we (both shooting) will remain in London and surrounding areas or adventure out into the country.

Of course I will be visiting google to find answers, but thought I'd ask my POTN friends who maybe have first hand experience

As for shooting, landscapes will be the main focus with urban as secondary.

Thanks for any input.

The large parks in London are pretty nice (Kensington gardens and Hyde Park, Regents Park, etc). White Cliffs of Dover at sun rise... Stone hendge and Salisbury cathedral... In London, urban stuff, St. Paul's street photography along the rive Thames on the south bank by the galleries and museums, Canary Wharf, Millennium Bridge to the Tate Museum...

The list goes on and on. I'm an Architect, so I like the urban and street photography and architecture side of things...

If it were me, I'd want to get to a few of the more remote areas of Scotland. I would fly into London, rent a car and head north. I would end in London for a few days before leaving

That said, I have no idea whether this is doable in the time you will have. Google maps/directions is your friend. I would not go to Europe for anything less than 2 weeks

Well worth heading north after a good few days in London. I'd recommend a train to Cumbria; for landscapes the Lake District is amazing. Another 2 hours from Cumbria on the train has you in Scotland, as the poster above has said get a hire car and head to Loch Lomond, Loch Ness, Fort William and the highlands. You are spoilt for choice here, just bring a waterproof coat!

going to take it off auto soon...;)

Landscapes in London?

Just go to Scotland IMO. London sucks anyway and the Scots are more friendly, it might just take a day or so to get used to the accent though.

Lake district is a tad crowded but nice as is N Wales which is probably OK if your not English.

(PS I grew up in London, so Londoners need not give me grief)

Seriously there are really nice European cities, but unless you are into the city thing (i.e you'd go to NY for a long weekend), there are better places to go IMO.

In London look for travellodges as these can be pretty reasonable and are usually central. They're basic but have everything you need. I wouldn't pay for breakfast though, you can find something cheaper and nicer. London by foot is nice, try walking along the river from blackfriars bridge toward southwark. Also, the city is great on a sunday, lots of old churches etc hidden away behind the big financial buildings.
You could head out towards the Cotswolds from London, it can be done in a day but a few days is better. The scenery is fantastic, some great photos there. You can also have a look at places like Bath, Oxford or Stratford upon Avon while you're over that way.
You ca also head to the coast, Brighton for example, it depends on how far from London you want to go. York is two hours by train from London and worth a visit.
