I recently posted on FB looking for a child or 2 to work with. I have a few things I want to "try" so I was wanting someone who might have some patience for me to experiment. I didnt want to totally do things for free and get "that" reputation so I asked people to "nominate" someone who is having a hard time for any reason (military, health, etc) who might benefit from a photo, and yet be willing to hangout a bit and let me think over some concepts, etc.

Someone nominated a woman to me who is about 8 months pregnant. Apparently the baby is expected to be born without hands, a whole host of issues, and most likely dead. She wants someone to take maternity pics to help her remember this, though, and the past month has been pretty hard finding all this out. Anyway, I am doing the shoot sunday, mom and husband and kids. We don't have a lot of time b/c Monday/ Tuesday they find out the results of the amnio and if it's what they expect she will ask to be induced.

If anyone has any suggestions for me I would appreciate it. I want to do some stuff in studio and maybe outside. I'd like to maybe use a prop or 2, but I didnt want to go over the top given the circumstances. I'm not sure what to do aside from just some generic poses as I think maybe using some "baby" probs might be overboard... given the circumstances.

I also have a few ideas just for the boys.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts, see your examples, etc. I'm really excited about this opportunity and glad I can do it to help someone.

What a very difficult situation......I personally would try to keep the session quite intimate. Make it a priority to show the connection between the family members....especially Mom and Dad. Considering the circumstance, the photos that you're about to take may be the only visual memories that this couple will have of this child. Personally, I would avoid a studio environment and rather focus on the home environment/relationships.

I offered to go to their house, but kinda left it up to them. It was her suggestion to come to my place and then we may go outside. I am going to consider some parks, my only concern was Sunday is also mothers day. I figure the parks will be busy? I'm not really sure b/c I dont have kids.

Most of what I am seeing is a black backdrop, and I have a large one of those and like to use it, if we end up in "studio"
I see a lot of pics online of the women with the men and the men have their shirt off. Am I the only one that finds that creepy?

I may hit her up tomorrow and ask again about the house or any other places they like to frequent as a family.

The last maternity shots I did were outside in winter, and they went pretty well for me, but it was at a location I was familiar with, though not mine. Tomorrow and sat I'll go looking at parks and places and such.
