Does anyone still shoot with 1D mark ii?

I went to my daughter's school this morning for a charity run school was hosting and I realized my 5Dc was too slow at 3 fps to capture fast action, so I ended up using my Sony Nex mostly. So soon as I came home I've been looking around for a body with faster shooting speed and I came across 1D mark ii body that's on sale locally. I like the idea of 8.5 fps but being almost 10 yrs old, is it worth picking up this body or am I just wasting my money? I personally never handled any of 1D lines so I am not sure what I am getting into, if any current or previous users can chime in, I would appreciate it.

I shoot with one right now! I moved up from a 1d classic! Can't really go wrong. Even though they aren't huge MP, they still create some stunning photos! The size takes a little getting used to if you don't have a grip with your 5d, but you get used to it and love the feel of the body and build! I shoot mostly pics of my dogs so the autofocus and fps helps quite a bit!

I'd never even seen a 1D before mine came in the mail.It's not just the fps but also the AI servo tracking that will impress you.Check out my sports set on my Flickr.I'd buy the 1Dn for the added features that are only cost about $100 more than the 1D.

I still use a pair of them, and prefer them to my 1D III in some ways. Bear in mind though that Canon no longer services them so try to avoid a high mileage one if you can, or buy it knowing if anything goes wrong (like the shutter blowing out) you'll have to find a repair shop that happens to have spare parts...or toss it on eBay.

As cheap as they are now though, you can run the crap out of them and still get your money's worth.

I still have my 1D2, unfortunately it doesn't see much use now because for most things the 5D3 is a better all around tool for me. That said I love the 1D2 and there are certain things I definitely think it's worth hanging on to for.

1Ds are amazing...I loved mine. HOWEVER...beware, they're big, bulky and heavy. Yes, I know, big, bulky cameras are cool...until you get tired of them.

The 40D shoots at 6.5 fps, the 50D at 6.3 fps and the 7D at 8 fps...they're all awesome cameras, with many advantages over the 1D2 (which, as has been pointed out, is no longer supported in any way by Canon), such as LiveView, video (not all of them), better screens, better menus, etc. Perhaps looking into one of those may be a better option for you.

For now the 1Dn is still serviced by Canon.They are a Bang For The Buck deal.

Thanks guys. I decided to test my luck and bought it after trying it for couple shots. I guess my biggest concern was shutter count but to my surprise it was only 60K which is not too bad for a body of this age. But I did notice large dial doesn't scroll through menu nor pictures taken although it does work for changing settings when taking pictures. This commands me to read the manual hopefully it was locked or something that I can easily revert, crossing fingers now.

I also use 1D mk II for sports, Im just blown out by the amazing AF performance.

The only downside is the weight.

And the size of the batteries. They are NIMH, so make sure to drain them completely before recharging to get the best life.

Ok I realized my camera didn't come with a manual, and couldn't find anything about large scroll dial not working on menu and pciture scrolling did anyone experience the same problem?

You'll probably find that it works, the early 1D bodies need two hands to operate them for certain things. To scroll, I think you have to hold down select (to the right of the screen) and then operate the wheel.

You need the manual to get the most out of the body. You can download them.

Here you go. Read this cover to cover. Then go back and read it again. The 1DmkII has a terrific sensor, and is capable of stunning images with good glass. The body is also immensely configurable, and you can tweak it to your style of shooting. I loved my 1DmkII/IIns.
