Hello everyone! I've been trying to take more photos at night in the great outdoors. This summer I hope to do a night hike and get some photos from mountain tops (when it isn't cloudy!) Let me know what you think, C+C welcome.
1. Self shot taken on a frozen river in the middle of a forest in the middle of the night. I was alone so I had to guess at the focus/settings. There's a bit of ghosting on me, but I think it came out nicely.
f/7.1 @ 17 mm, 113s, ISO 320
2. Same area as above, 2 shots merged. One for star trails/trees, one for the river/snow.
3. Taken in Pittsburg, NH. The reason it came out nicely was because there was little to no night pollution. I think next time I'm going to try with my 34L at a lower aperture. I didn't exactly know what I was doing here, but after a decent amount of trail and error, this one came out the best.
f/4 @ 17 mm, 30s, ISO 6400
4. From a scenic overlook in Bristol, NH. I used the startrails program to make this image from 90 (I think it was 90) 30s exposures.
5. Oyster River in Durham, NH. The light is from some sort of water-testing facility nearby.
f/6.3 @ 17 mm, 163s, ISO 640
6. This was taken on the top of Mt. Monadnock at around 1am. I did a night hike hoping to get some long exposure night-scapes from the top, but clouds and periods of thick fog rolled in as I hiked up. I decided to try and get at least SOME sort of photo.
f/2.8 @ 17 mm, 30s, ISO 3200
7. From the same hike mentioned above.
f/2.8 @ 17 mm, 25s, ISO 3200
8. From the same area as the first photo.
f/7.1 @ 19 mm, 221s, ISO 100
Again, C+C and hints welcome and wanted! I want to do another night hike and get landscape night shots from the top of a mountain. Not sure if I should go when there is a full moon, or no moon, or when it is colder, or warmer. I'm relatively inexperienced with night photos.
