This camera has been out for quite a while now and there has been a beta for manual use but nothing for TTL at all for the Flex etc

I am beginning to wonder if PW will ever be able to reverse engineer the use of TTL for this camera.

I know that this is a question that a lots of folks are asking. My guess is that it will never happen for the 1DX.

I'm running the 600ex's and st-e3 for E-TTL setup on the 1DX. It took PW a long time to reverse engineer the 5D3 and that's a very popular camera. With the 1DX, I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. Maybe before Christmas??? Who knows?

Hi iituner, I plan to use 1DX & 600EX-RT with YN-622C and saw that you are more knowledgeable on this matter.
My question:
Can I get ETTL only for the 600EX-RT attach to the master YN-622C sitting on top of 1DX?
I only need to remote trigger/fire other YN-622C units attach to some other strobes (manual only - no ttl no groups).
Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, after numerous tests 1DX with YN-622C revealed the following:
In most cases, E-TTLII is not working properly (the unpredictable spread of flash power level). Sometimes, in very rare cases, the wireless mode is turned off E-TTLII working correctly.
So I deleted 1DX from the list fully compatible cameras on my website WWW.YN622.RU (external link)
Excellent work only manual power control and all other functions.

YN-622C always controls the flash installed in the transciever hot shoe.
Therefore, errors in the T-TTLII will even put the flash in hot shoe YN-622C on the camera.

If you only have one flash on the camera needs to be E-TTLII, then perhaps it is best to use a simple trigger with the pass of TTL, for example COMMLITE Commtrig G430 or Phottix Strato II.

I will remove my post above about compatibility.

Hi iituner,
You idea of a simple trigger bypass is a good solution, but that defeats the purpose of having a simple setup.

Manual power control on YN-622C is ok but not ideal, maybe I will need to look at other wireless options.
I really appreciate your reply, thanks!

Switching to the 600s completely definitely hurts the wallet but you can at least get some value from selling your PWs. With the shields I started loving them again but the 600s are reallllly nice.

I got tired of waiting. Sold my mini and two flex units and picked up the Phottix Odins. A TCU and 3 receivers for the same price I sold the PW stuff for. They work great for me.

Do the Phottix work in TTL on the 1DX?

Also going to the Canon RF solution does not help you with studio lighting unless Canon gets into this business?

Yes, the Odins work in TTL on the 1DX.

I just checked the site and they seem to have a 1DX mode that is not quite TTL complete as you would find with the Pocketwizards?

The beta version is now out finally for full TTL (CTL) for the TT1/TT5 and I downloaded it today and it seems to work, my god what a wait!

I have been testing the beta today and will continue to test it over the next week or so. In the misc tab make sure you select 1DX, this covers off the 5D MKIII as well as I want to make sure both cams are solid with this.

I also need to test the Power MC2's as well in my Einsteins to make sure it all comes together.

Luckily they had a breakthrough in reverse engineering and they are able to adopt to what Canon brings. The future is looking a bit brighter now and they have nice platform to work from.
