Take a look.

would be interesting to see how easy it is to work a diffuser for these, should be not too difficult. Because from the samples so far, light is really not appealing. But of course, as killerclown said, for 30$, one cannot complain. Just needs tweaking.

I also forsee that at higher mag, it might be as convenient.

How are you triggering them and are they a pain in direct sunlight?

I'd also love to know more about your setup.

More photos would be a plus too.

I haven't had any difficulty yet in triggering them in direct sunlight.
Both the flashes are trigger by the popup flash on the camera.

It's a pretty simple setup. I will try and post the disassembled pieces later, but what it needs is following.

2 nos. Zeikos ZE-DS12 (external link) Flash units. (There are some equivalent ones from different manufacturers that might work as well.) These units come with straight bracket.
1 no. 4"x4" T bracket (external link)from Lowes/home depot
2 nos. 1/4 20 Wing nuts (external link)
1 no. 1/4 20 Tripod screw (external link).
1 no. rubber washer

The bottom of the T goes into the camera tripod socket with the rubber washer between the body and the T, fastened with tripod screw.

The straight brackets mount at the both sides of the T at and appropriate angle using their own tripod screws and the wing nuts.
The flashes are mounted at the end of each bracket with the supplied hardware. That's it..

I am thinking of adding a diffuser, but holding back for the loss of light.
You say "light is not appealing", do you mean it is blowing the highlights or is it something else?
