Ok all, I have sold my 50L and now have the funds to buy a 35L,
I only shoot weddings and I'am looking to this lens for some wider shots in dark churches and pre-bridal, I have the 85L and 135L + various zooms so a 35mm FL would keep the 50mm FL distance between each prime which would make each lens unique in its image look.

After going through the lens image section there is lots of pictures of dogs, flowers etc but not much in the way of weddings/portraits so hoping a few experienced folks with the 35L could share some 35L people pic's + their experience of using this FL for the human form..

The camera is just a storage box, it's the gLass in front that makes the image...

Why not Sigma 35mm f/1.4? It's cheaper, sharper and latest design both inside and outside. Even Dankata sold his 35mm L for it :D

I too am a wedding shooter and contemplating dropping my 50 1.4 for the Sigma 35mm.
I shot with a 35 during the film days with my dad's T70.

I will watch this thread carefully. :)

I shoot mostly with a 35 and 85 on 2 bodies for weddings. But I use the zeiss instead. Focal lengths compliment each other very well.

Do you shoot zeiss at weddings? I wouldn't have the guts to try using manual lenses at weddings, maybe prep, but definately not during reception.

I use the 35. Never have problems with misfocus but do sometimes miss a shot or two cause it can take half a second to get in focus. I also use the 24 tse. Those are my only wide angles. I bought the 85L last year to use at weddings but before then I've used the 85 zeiss at weddings. And I actually think I get fewer percentage of keepers with the 85L since the af can be slower than I can do with the zeiss. I also have to shoot more and hope I get one that's good. Maybe the 5d3 would improve that.

I feel like after a while you're able to anticipate when things happen and you're ready for it. Eg-s screen and laser eye surgery helps a lot too!

Check out Dankata who is a well known wedding photographer here.

He used to have the 35L, but has now upgraded to the Sigma, because yes S35 trumps C35 :p

I think 35, 85 and 135mm is still the go-to prime trio, and the fact that Sigma makes a great 35mm f/1.4, doesn't take anything away from the Canon 35L, which seems to have always been a "holy grail" for that focal length.
But lately, I've seriously been debating doing the 24LII, 50L and 100L macro route, since I'll be wanting a macro anyway.

Given the price difference between them, I'd probably get the Sigma today. It looks great for about ~400 less.

Using 24LII and 50L as well (among others), the 24 is fantastic, it's usually glued to one body for weddings.

Thanks all,

I know the Sigma 35 looks good but I just cant get my head around spending all that money on a after-market lens, probably because of a bad experience I had with a Siggy a long time ago and I have heard about inconsistances with focusing, but I do agree it does look a very sharp lens and operates well at F1.4 or so I have read...

Also I'am a CPS member and any repairs or calibration is sorted very quick at a reasonable cost +++ I'am a complete L snob!!

Same combo for me! I love the 50, 85, 200 lengths as well, sometimes they are more desirable - but if I can ONLY have two lenses on me - these two can cover it.

35L on my 5d classic and either 50,85 or 70-200 on my 5d3.

I know the new S35 is supposed to be the cats nuts, but I got my 35L used for the same price and this thing is so damn sharp its scary. In fact, in many shots I have to tone down on the sharpening/clarity in LR - yes that good.
