I have to agree FastStone does have a very well laid out and easy to understand layout, that Is easy to work with and view pictures In different ways, It Is like the final cinema of pictures and Its page layout Is very concise and easy to follow and alter settings, Just Its pp alterations are not as good as more proffesional sites - Gimp, Adobe etc, and I think DPP (as I view It anyway), Is a dedicated Raw conversion and pp site,

P.

DPP works fine with jpegs as well as Raws. The Canon software ZoomBrowserEX is also available for viewing/culling photos (including supported Raw files. I don't know about the speed comparisons with FastStone, though!

Never saw the original. ;)
This one is okay, but I would prefer some detail in the blacks.

The original Raw un touched pic strait out of DPP and Just re sized as a Jpeg...

I have a second hand camera that didd'nt come with any disks, I tried downloading ZoombrowserEX from the a good reputable site on the net, It completed the download then asked me to finish by Inserting the disks, that come with new cameras, I could'nt so had to cancel Installation.

There are a couple "work-arounds" for this, installing both ZoomBrowser and DPP without disks, but I don't have the links handy, maybe someone can chip in...?

But why use FastStone? What do you do in FastStone that you can't do in DPP?

agedbriar wrote in post #15938921 (external link)
Much faster viewing, organizing, occasional downsizing and converting to jpeg...

These are all the things that I can do quickly and easily in DPP. I just can't see the need for a separate program for these basic functions.

Are you familiar with the "Quick Check" tool in DPP?

Not for editing: what can't be done in DPP I do in PhotoLine on the tiff.

That's a new one that I'm not familiar with.

Canon has finally recognized that not all computers have CD drives and they have made the complete "EOS Solution Disk" available under the "Drivers and Software" section of most of the Canon camera sites that I have checked. The Canon site is no longer for "updates only". Canon 7D: http://www.usa.canon.com …eos_7d#DriversAndSoftware (external link)

Yes, I am, but I prefer FastStone. It's a much more capable viewer.

Actually I could define FastStone as my photo "hub", from where I drag-and-drop tiffs to various specialized programs I use, move the files to various locations on disk and perform general maintainance.

It's my default program for any operations that wouldn't be performed to higher quality elsewhere.
